Hey, fellow Indiehackers!
What's your verdict on newsletters when it comes to promoting your project?
I'm looking for creative and budget-friendly ways to put more users into our (still) leaking bucket to get valuable insights and feedback. Not saying newsletter is anything close to a creative way to do that, but it always comes up as an option.
• Have you ever tried promoting your product using sponsored newsletter services? What was the impact?
• What is the best way to find someone with an audience which is likely to be interested in your product? (in our case it's a mobile app for photo/layout editing - https://www.fibe-app.com/)
• Maybe you tried other ways which work better? 🤔
Thank you all for any insights you can share!
I think newsletters are a great way to get in front of an audience (I’m biased maybe - I have a newsletter and have sponsored them too).
To find suitable newsletters look at marketplaces like paved.com.
Also, @AndrewKamphey started a service connecting product creators and newsletters.
Newsletter advertising isn't for everyone.
Hi, as, @pauldmet mentioned, I do run HypeLetter.com
I'd say try it out with a few newsletters, by creating relationships and once you knew which audience and which context worked, scale it with paid placements in newsletters.
Let me give you a few perspectives:
Just last week I featured a few projects from indiehackers for creators in my newsletter. I did it for free. Just wanted to be of service to my readers. You can't really just hope and wait for newsletter writers to come to you.
If you email me and ask for my rates, I'd just give them to you. Never thinking much about your product.
If you emailed me and asked how you can help my audience be better at their jobs, smarter, make more money? Then I'm all ears. IF you try to help me understand the real usefulness of your design app, and even design some posts for me. Wow! I'm giving you a ton of energy back, excited to work with you and use those design elements, and talk about you.
In summary: it's all about the pitch and how you want to relate to newsletter creators/writers. Some, you'll already genuinely like, and love their work. Some of them you may look at as just a tool.
The way I've personally gotten into other newsletters is to create a relationship and try to find a way to help each other out.
If I knew then that Newsletters were a great source of traffic and sales, and I could pinpoint a Cost Per Acquisition, I'd bring that to the writers and see if they'd serve my ad more and more with payment.
Hey, I think sponsored newsletters are good way to reach people, but to be honest there's always those metrics of click rates you need to consider because not all users opens and clicks through the links in the newsletters. You might get the impressions though. Sponsored advertising may work pretty well if it is done on a relevant industry website, it will give you impressions as well as potential users to reach.
