Hi Geoffrey, the key to push notifications I believe is explaining the user what content you are going to push. People hate spam and they will not allow the notification if you do not explain what you are going to send them. Also for push notifications to work they must have value for the end user, otherwise is spam and not effective
I prefer using this notification tool https://3xpush.com/ It's not annoying at all and performs its function perfectly. It's also a great promotional tool.
I use it for www.joblife.co.za - I send my users job related notifications from time to time. My list of push notification subscribers is the fastest growing list I have when compared to my e-mail list. I agree with the above poster that you need to be clear about what content you will send your users.

Where do you make that message clear ? Int the pop-up notification. Where ?
