Qualifying beta users for SaaS app

What criteria do you employ to choose Beta testers? Do you simply grant access to every lead that comes in on a first-come, first-served basis? alternatively how do you determine whether the inbound requests (mainly e-mail addresses) fit to your Ideal Customer Profile? TIA

One of the easier ways would be to serve them a questionnaire. Then first choose people who are well down the funnel, are aware of the problem, and looking for the solution asap.

Later you can simply remove those requirements one by one and get people from a higher funnel stages 🙂

Funnily enough, I'm going through this right now. What I've done is just implement some basic lead qualifiers. Some might be: "company size", "monthly budget" "use case" etc.

I've worked at my fair share of startups, and company size and monthly budget are highly correlated to customer lead value. Also, if the highest value customers seem to share a use case; then you might be able to make that into a question, and if a customer selects use case when signing up; then it's most likely a high value lead. If there is a way to structure customer use cases into categories, and ask customers during the form signup process; then it makes life a lot easier when prioritizing outreach later on.

Do you do it via questionnaire? eg - Typeform or any such?

You can create a drop down directly in the modal/signup form. I do it directly in my Wordpress site. Check it out live here for an example:
