I'm super happy to introduce my new product: Qualli. In here I'll introduce it, but also share how my week was. I want to share my learnings each week, so you can follow along and avoid making the same mistakes.

Introducing Qualli

I'm super excited to show you all Qualli! It's the start of something that could be great, I think.

Qualli is a B2B SaaS tool that allows for easy feedback collection in mobile apps.

Having worked in multiple startups, and also seeing a lot of them fail, one thing was always the same: They didn't listen to their users... why is that?

Not listening to your users is a business killer; you spend your time and resources on something that users don't end up needing. Although this seems very logical, how much feedback have you ever given in an app? It's very rare, and especially in smaller companies.

Many companies use Typeform, or set up complex marketing funnels to reach their users. Your user's inbox is already hot property, you're raising your hand at a rock concert, trying to get seen...

Qualli aims to make this easier. Ask for micro-feedback at the moment, while users are already investing their time and focus in your app. Set up surveys that can be triggered at a specific point in your users' journey, ensuring you get real-time feedback.

The benefits of taking the Qualli micro-feedback approach:

  • Small pieces of feedback in large amounts
  • More likely to be answered
  • Relevant to your user at the moment
  • Feels part of your app, not breaking or frustrating your user

What I did right

Testing my Landing Page on Reddit

A while back, I noticed a thread called "Roast my landing page". It's where entrepreneurs showed their landing page and asked for Reddit users' feedback.

So I decided to do the same. I was very skeptical at first, because Reddit is still Reddit... it's very easy to get into a negative spiral. But I was very surprised; the feedback was super valuable.

I gathered valuable insights and was able to update my landing page for the better.

Adding Tracking to my Landing Page

I added Posthog and Hotjar to my landing page before asking for feedback on Reddit. Posthog has a session replay tool, which makes it easy to follow along as your users use your website.

Here you get a free device testing service: They started testing on mobile/desktop/different browsers, which allowed me to easily spot errors, layout issues, design faults.

Posting on IndieHackers

Last week was my first article here, and I was amazed by the comments and positive vibes. It really gave me a boost to continue on.

What I did wrong

Perfectionism

Sometimes an MVP just has to be quick and dirty. Although I'm very happy with the landing page, it could have been quicker. The mindset of having to get it to a perfect state is still there.

Not using GPT enough

I'm pretty much bilingual, but copy has never been my strong suit. I should have used GPT sooner, instead of trying to do it all myself.

Fighting the imposter syndrome

As I was getting closer to launch, I started feeling anxious. Doubts began to creep in: Is this a good idea? Does it have potential? Why do I think it will succeed? Is it enough to launch with?...

Sharing it on Reddit for feedback, I really felt stress building up. Which is strange, as I hadn't felt it up to that point. What changed? Making it public, showing it to people.

It's easy to work on something of your own, but then having to share it and either fail or succeed publicly is a leap (or at least for me).

The definition of "imposter syndrome":

Imposter syndrome (IS) is a behavioral health phenomenon described as self-doubt about intellect, skills, or accomplishments among high-achieving individuals.

You question your actions, skills, thoughts leading to you starting your own business.

It is tied to a person's personality, but I guess this feeling will come back multiple times. A business doesn't go in a straight line; it's with ups and downs. I think the most powerful realization here is: It's okay to fail; you probably will... but you listen and adapt. If you don't risk anything, you can't succeed.

So as a first-time Indie Hacker, I'm holding on to that thought and focusing on moving forward.

    Good write up, and even better product! You should launch on Product Hunt - I see myself using this when I have enough users to get feedback from ^^ I almost signed up to try it out, I got too excited 😅 At least you know your landing excites some people 😌

      Why not try it out 😉 It's free of charge + getting feedback shouldn't be dependant on the number of users you have.

        Ah I just saw that you only support React Native for now. You should add a waitlist on that page so non-RN devs can receive an email when their platform is supported :D

          The option the "Request Early Access Here" is listed there, but it seems like it isn't obvious enough.

          Any suggestions on how to make it stand out more to you? I could add a new block perhaps or maybe a seperate "For Developers" page

            Ohhh it was actually obvious. I know why I didn't see them at first - I skimmed until I saw "web" or any framework under it. Since I didn't see any, I didn't even notice the Request for access links. So ignore me on that

    If you want to write blog I would recommend you to try out my blogging tool. It will help you analyze google data automatically and get the best keywords to target and title for your specific niche and target customer.

    During my first app launch 🚀 CarbonWatchUK I was chasing perfection and I was super anxious what people will say about my app. What if it not good enough?

    But I’ve learnt from that and second one went a bit faster, but still I was delaying and delaying as I was “not ready enough”, then the mindset change happened, and last one I launched fast to start getting feedback asap, and that was amazing moment!

    I feel you for the comments you posted, and right now it’s going to be only better!

    Thanks for sharing! Your landing page looks really clean and polished. It's almost giving me a little IS as I start to put together my first landing page haha How long did you spend on it in total? How much quicker do you think you could have launched if you could move past the perfectionism (I suffer from that too)?

    Also very clever name for your SaaS - as an Australian I'm a big fan of your mascot/logo

      Thanks for the kind words!

      Don't stress, just steal with your eyes. In my process I bought a framer template that also had a Figma file for it. Put it together in Figma, and start building it out after in Framer. That way you can create a consistent branding and layout.

      For the perfectionism and how I could have gone faster:

      • I have the tendency to use a template, build something, dislike it again and try another one. Think spending a little more time really validating a template for me to use, then to start building it.
      • If it doesn't exist in the template => it won't exist on the website. Spend a little too much time on custom components
      • Let assets be designed by someone cheap while you're still building it out, I did it when all copy was done. But if you ask for it in Figma you can still update them yourself if the copy changes
