Questions on Data Virtualization & Federation

What are the open source solutions that one can use to create a data virtualization or federation solution? I've come across Apache Nifi and Apache Calcite which in combination can create what I'm looking for but it seems too lengthy a process, is there any other solution that can make the process simpler and faster from development perspective?
