A year ago Harvel was selected by AppSumo for their "Select" promotion.
It ran for 30 days, and in that time Harvel generated $50.000, and based on our agreement with AppSumo, we got $10.000. It might not seem like a lot, but it was great for us because during that period we were also looking for a small exit.
Will I work with AppSumo again? Probably. It's a great way to kickstart your startup!
I see many people here using AppSumo and very happy about it. Does AppSumo offer only LTDs? Do you sign a contract with them for a specific time duration?
The part about spending 8 hours a day on customer support is the reason why I won't try tools like AppSumo for LTD deals.
I honestly would prefer 10k $ with 100 customers on which I profited 100% over 1000 customers which provided 30% profit.
People go to AppSumo because they need quick cash to survive. It depends on how urgent you need cash.
The OP said they needed a small exit. Making $10k from customers may take more than 30 days. If you have enough cash to survive until your product makes enough revenue, that's great. Many of us don't have such luxury and that's why AppSumo will always be a lifesaver to many.
Good point. Currently, I'm a full-time Software Engineer, so with a secured salary, I have a different perspective on it and for sure you're right it may be useful for quick cash flow.
On point!
Hello Daniel! Great insights, thank you for those. A side note, question, what template engine are you guys using that allows you to write {{variable, uppercase}} ?
can someone give some context on what appsumo is ?
you post your product there and give lifetime access to users, so you get a lot more traction and kickstart your startup ?
It's kind of marketplace for SaaS Lifetime Deals.
Most common Lifetime deal offer would be priced around $49.
And from that appsumo takes the major chunk either 70% or 90% depending on certain conditions.
Also, people feel better when the offer is tied up to certain current plan rather than just a LTD without linked to any plan.
Also, by LTD they mean Lifetime updates too.
Note: I am an appsumo user (since 2017)
Thanks for sharing, Daniel! I just looked into it for SEOBrrr but it looks like you have to offer either a one-time purchase option or annual paid all at once - and offer a 60-day refund. I'll have to think about this a bit more but it's definitely on my radar now. Thanks!
Appsumo works great for initial pushup.
Currently there are two categories, one is select and other one is generic.
For anyone who wants to try appsumo I would suggest keeping it generic and parallelly mention your product & offer on Facebook groups.
