Radical candor makes you a better indie hacker

I think these principles apply after a company gets beyond a certain size.

Sure, radical candor might be a good idea for a 2-3person startup, but it gets far more important when you get bigger.

I think it's important, when offering advice like this, to specify for what COMPANY SIZE you think this advice applies. Because a startup is a very different animal from a 100-person enterprise.

Can't recommend this enough if you're a founder that leads a small group of people. It also can transform relationships with people you love. I talk about this with my husband and we are both now better open communicators with compassion.

Listened to Kim Scott's radical candor TED Talk recently and I loved it.

This concept has been totally lacking at any company that I've worked for. There's typically a toxic relationship between bosses and employees that bleeds into everything — employee-employee relationships especially. It's like toxic sludge dripping down from the top, infecting everyone with negativity and political fervor.

More often than not, my workplaces have been focused on punishing or shaming someone when they're wrong. What's that teach the person and her peers? Fear. Stay in line. Don't try new things. Hide what you need to.

What I love about Scott's concept is that bosses and founders have to check their bullshit ego at the door. They need to be actively welcoming and encouraging feedback on themselves and encouraging their employees to do the same.
