Raising with just an idea is getting harder — traction matters more than ever

Fundraising expectations feel very different today compared to a few years ago.

At one point, an idea and a strong deck could open doors.

Now it feels more like:

  • MVP built

  • A few users

  • Some traction

  • Maybe early revenue

And honestly, it makes sense.

Investors want signals — not just potential. One of the biggest mindset shifts I’ve had as a founder despite all the peer pressure to raise:

Focus on traction first. Fundraising second.

Traction changes the conversation completely.

Curious: Did you raise with just an idea, or did you need traction first?
