I’m in the beginning stages of starting a Canadian based car wax brand. I have one brand name that I’ve had in my head for quite some time now and wanted to get some feedback on it. The brand would be “True North Wax Co.”
My one concern is that it’s too long, but I do think it really portrays my market and product well.
Looking for any feedback you have, thanks!
This is really interesting - I definitely haven't heard of anyone starting a car wax brand before. How did you get into that?
RE the name: I like it! Dig the implication that your wax brand is the "right direction" for potential customers to go in :)
Who would you say "your market" is, and why do you think that "True North" would resonate with them?
Thanks @jordin_codes!
So I’ve had an extremely strong passion for cars since I can remember and I’ve always found cleaning/detailing cars very enjoyable. One day I was cleaning my car and wondered what it would be like if I started my own brand of wax. Car enthusiasts are very much into buying and trying new products on their car (and spending way more money than they probably should in the process haha). Overall, there wasn’t a magical moment when I thought of the idea. I’m a software developer by trade, and I know that I don’t want to start a tech company at this point in my career, so this idea that mixes my passion with a potential business opportunity really has me excited!
Oh that’s an implication that I never thought of! I actually named it “True North” because I’m from Canada and that’s kind of the slang name we have for our country haha. We don’t really have any Canadian brands of car care products that I know of and thought that this could be a good angle to approach our marketing from.
Overall, my market would be mostly Canadian car enthusiasts (which sounds like a small market, but in reality that’s not really the case). You’d be surprised how many people have a passion for their vehicles once you start attending car meets and events etc. One day, I’d like to make it a global brand, but I figure I can take it slow and start a bit smaller and focus on gaining traction gradually.
Very cool, thanks for the in-depth context! As someone else who is a developer by trade, I love meeting others that are pursuing entrepreneurial ventures outside of tech (e.g. I help my dad run a painting company!)
It sounds like you've got a lot of passion and know the industry really well. Love the name and hope you keep us updated as you get the ball rolling!
I like it. You should go with it.
How about: NordicWax? PolarWax?
