I am writing an eBook to save Android Developers hundreds of hours from learning Google's new UI framework for Android apps. I am currently at 18 preorders and planning of launching the first part of the eBook soon.
I made sure to include what the value for people is, along with some testimonials from people from the Android Community and people preordering it. There is also location specific discounts as a lot of the audience is from developing countries.
I would love to hear your thoughts about it.
The plan for now is continue working on the eBook and continue promoting it on Twitter. I want to get more involved in SEO at some point (if you got any low hanging fruits i'd love to know) but i think that's something i can do even after launching.
Hey @alexstyl
Here are some thoughts:
Design:
Remove the circle graphic with the book cover. The book image is hard to read and ends up adding visual noise. I would replace it with a text-based logo for the domain. That gives people a mental anchor to come back to your site if they decide not to purchase on the first visit.
The Twitter testimonials section is an abrupt introduction. It takes a second to understand those are testimonials. Add a leading bit of text to let people know that's what they are.
The Table of Contents icon is hard to discern what it is. It's also unnecessary and creates more visual noise. It links to a cool view of the book progress, but you can't tell that's what it's for at first glance (or that it's even a link). I would add a small text link under the Table of Contents header to show that the user can go look at the WIP.
I recommend styling the Table of Contents a little so that it stands out from the rest of the text.
The Sneak Peek and the FAQ bleed together. I would add some sort of separator to delineate them.
Copy:
People react more emotionally to losing something than they do to gaining something.
Try reusing some of your copy to rewrite your headline.
Change from:
"Save hundreds of hours learning Jetpack Compose"
To:
"Don't waste hundreds of hours learning Jetpack Compose from scratch"
Or (even better):
"Don't spend hundreds of hours learning Jetpack Compose from scratch"
You can then add a subhead letting them know that you've already done that and are here to help teach what you learned.
"I've already done that. In this book, I give you straight-to-the-point explanations and code examples to..."
Above the Table of Contents, change the crosshead.
From:
"Save hundreds of hours from"
To:
"Don't waste your time..."
For the pre-order price, is the final price really going to be $99.99? If so, that's fine, but the current representation of that isn't clear on the landing page. Right now it reads like the $49.99 is a discount on the pre-order price.
I recommend adding something to indicate the $99 will be the final book price.
Under the first pre-order CTA, your Twitter link is just there. It feels out of place. There's no context around why it's there. If you want to use it, add some context. Let people know they can find you on Twitter. Maybe move it to the FAQ section and tell people that if they have questions or want more info, they can find you on Twitter.
That's it.
Good Luck. I hope you sell thousands of copies!
Appreciate the feedback Davey! 🙏
Hi @alexstyl, Nice work on the website. Here are my 2 cents:
I think you've done nice work with the messaging. I like the Header -> testimonials -> Pros and cons. My suggestions are to change the table of contents from a long list to something more easily scannable. The preview sections are nice, the FAQ is a bit abrupt at the end. I think you have a great start. Keep up the good work. Good luck on the book.
thanks for the feedback & good points 🙏
Happy to help. Don't give up. You'll crush it.
