Reached $100 MRR with a no-code product built on Bubble!

I've got a remote design job board that finds ALL new jobs posted daily. https://theojobs.com/ I just charge $5/mth, don't think it'll go super far but we'll see.

I told my colleague about it and he laughed because:

  1. I have natural churn (when you find a job you cancel your sub)
  2. I have anti-network effects (people don't want to spread job boards because it means more competition for the job).

On the flip side, it's helping a lot of people find jobs, so I'll keep it running until it no longer financially makes sense to.

Here's a crazy idea for you - make the price $10/mth, but discount it to $5/mth if they share it with 3 friends by entering their emails for the friends to receive personalized invitations. This is part of how Airtable grows, the more I share and they sign-up, the more free months I get.

Hey, I just noticed you're also in Vancity! I've got a different job board niche that I started and then abandoned for a while, if you're looking for another project.

Great progress for 2 only months of existence!
It is great how neat and straightforward the site is. I would love to see how far you can bring this project!

Hi Chris, nicely done and congrats! The first $100 is always the hardest.

One thing that I'd recommend is to add an email newsletter option! Allow users to subscribe and get email notifications of new postings (will have them come back to the site often!).

EDIT: I didn't know that the "Create free alert" button meant to opt into email notifications. I'd make that more clear, I'm sure there will be other people like me that don't realize the function of the button :)

    This is fantastic! @Chkrlee

I seldom see job board monetize from seekers' side and you did it well! Are you comfortable sharing more info i.e. churn rate, application rate so that we can address your challenge? How long have you been running this? Well done!

Great work there! What platform did you use to make it?
And how do you source the jobs? Sorry for the noob questions, just starting out here :)

no worries. I used bubble.io. I source the jobs by manually (either me or someone else) combing a set list of high value job sources (everything from scraping applicant tracking systems to job aggregators and social media feeds). Eventually it can probably be partly automated but part of the reason I find more jobs than anyone else is because it's manual - hard to programmatically scrape social media feeds for contextual keywords.

Why are there so many job boards? I've seen the job board like remoteok by Pieter Levels so many times. Seem like everyone is making a job board to grab some cash

      hey there! some thoughts:

      1. I tried to start a business last year, and took some investment money from family. Tl;Dr, I lost their money. Would I like to make some cash to be able to pay them back by solving a problem that exists in the world? Yes.
      2. Theo is very different from other job boards. I charge the job seeker a nominal fee, not the company posting. I find probably close to 20 new jobs a day, remoteok finds around 1 job every 2-3 days.
      3. The reason I started Theo was because when I folded my business I spent 3-4 hours a day checking 30+ job boards, not to mention social media feeds, applicant tracking systems, and more. I felt I'd pay someone $5/mth to do it for me, so I built Theo.
      4. I've given Theo away for free to so many people who have been laid off from COVID-19 that I'm actually still losing money on the venture. But it's the right thing to do and the people who have gotten it for free are incredibly grateful.

So please, don't be so quick to throw negative comments around without actually understanding the context.
