Reached 50,000 users 🥳

I launched volt.fm in early March and today it reached 50k users.

With volt.fm you get a cool public page for your Spotify profile that shows your stats (top artists/songs/genres), playlists, and even the song that you're currently listening to.

See an example here → volt.fm/chrismessina (yes, that's Chris Messina!)

It also lets you browse artists, genres, and songs to discover new music and find people with similar tastes.

My next plan is to add a feature that lets users share music with their friends and get human non-algorithmic recommendations from them.

How do you plan to monetize it? The easiest monetization seems advertising and sponsored newsletters.

    1. 1

Yes, ads on the website and on the newsletter are my main monetization plans.

  2. 3

We are waiting for a marketing strategies guide from you! Congratulations! 💥

    1. 1

Yup, would love to hear more about how you've gotten to this point! Very cool and congratulations!

      1. 1

Thanks! I'll write a more detailed post about it.

    2. 1

Thanks! I'll try to share anything that I learn along the way.

      1. 1

        +1
I'd love to read a post of how you marketed the project (with specific examples).

        1. 1

Sure. I'll write about it soon.

  3. 1

    That's amazing Soheil, congratulations.

  4. 1

50K users in couple of months is an amazing acheivement.

  5. 1

    Wow, what a number! Congrats.

  6. 1

Just signed up! Love the visuals! As someone who uses Spotify on a regular basis, seeing all the data is really cool.

    1. 1

Glad to hear that. Thanks :)

  7. 1

    Hey, congratulations on your milestone.
Let us know if you ever want to run a newsletter/email campaign for these users directly from Notion. 😅

    1. 1

Thank you, Nagesh. I already have this newsletter that I send to my users once a month and report their stats for the past month.

  8. 1

Amazing. It's a great product with a slick UI so I'm not surprised!

If I may ask, what's your main user acquisition channel?

    1. 2

      Thank you, Farez.

My main user acquisition channel has been word of mouth so far. People love to show off their stats to others and it's gone viral on Twitter a few times already. On one occasion, I got 16k users in a day!

      1. 1

Agree, this is impressive! It's often said that your product is your best marketing. And this proves it. Well done!

  9. 1

Congrats Soheil! This is an awesome milestone! I've been watching the growth on Twitter, and have been amazed by it! How did your investor meeting go if I may ask?

    1. 1

Thank you, Sasa. It got postponed to next week :)

      1. 1

👍 I'm sure I'll see something about it on Twitter!

  10. 1

@Soheil What is main source of traffic to your website as I am getting my traffic mainly from indiehacker.

    1. 2

Currently, my main source of traffic is word of mouth but I'm starting to get some good impressions on Google too.

  11. 1

How did you get the first 1000

    1. 4

The first 600 were people who had signed up on the landing page and reserved their usernames. The rest were people coming from Twitter and my post on Reddit.

      1. 1

I’d love to see your Reddit post that drove most of the signups. Could you send the link?

      2. 1

Nice, I've Platoed at 300 users, I use twitter and telegram. Any advice for me
Here is my startup : nfthunt.softr.app

        1. 2

          Have you tried Reddit?

          1. 1

For a short while but didn't drive any sign ups

            Did you use PH?

            1. 2

For this project, not yet. I'll probably do it next month.

              1. 1

Hmm.. can we connect on Twitter? I feel i can learn a lot from you https://twitter.com/NFT_HuntHQ

                Thanks a lot

  12. 1

I bet your biggest source of traffic is word of mouth! When I used it originally I immediately shared it in my work slack - did many people do the same?

    1. 2

Yes, exactly. And I have this feature that lets users get a nice screenshot of their stats for sharing, and people use it a lot.

  13. 1

    Looks really good. 🎉

  14. 1

Cool idea - it's a bit like a linktree link out or dashboard

    1. 1

I'm actually made something similar to linktree. I call it www.creworth.com . It's a way to show your exclusive network to the public with one link to get more opportunities. Check it out if you are interested :) .

    2. 1

Thanks. It's more like last.fm but I doubt anyone's using it now these days :)

      1. 1

last.fm... those were the days. lol.

  15. 1

Nicely done Soheil! Congrats on your Milestone!

I would live to know how you plan to deal with the risk of Spotify cutting you out, if or when they plan to release their own stats part. I guess the obvious answer is the real-people song recommendations, right?

Are you planning to monetize it?

    1. 1

      Thank you, Kod.

Yes, that's a big risk. I've tried my best to comply with Spotify's developer ToS. They show the user's top artists and top tracks in their profiles now but that's not publicly visible and I don't think they'll go beyond that. They're just too busy focusing on podcasts these days.

I have a Pro plan where users get some perks like themes and can promote their playlists on the website but my main monetization plan is selling ads on the website and on the newsletter. Primarily to artists who want to promote their music.

      1. 1

I like your approach and the way to move forward. Wish you best of luck and I agree with you that the podcast wars will keep them busy for the time-being!

If you are interested in further monetizing volt.fm I found great value using pricewell.io to integrate subscriptions and manage recurring payments.

  16. 1

Can you give a real life example of how a user will benefit from your platform?

    1. 1

      Well, as I mentioned:

      • They can see their stats
      • They can promote their playlists
      • They can discover new music
      1. 1

Users can also charge for sharing their playlist with others if it gets lot of likes
