Read, Discuss, and Read Some More

If you're on IHers you want to build something great, and that building something great probably requires you to push yourself. It's possible that those around you make it difficult to grow and don't want to discuss the topics that are important to you.

That's why I'm working on https://www.uption.io.

The idea is a platform where you can join with others to read and discuss books in the areas that you want growth. Each book is it's on group, with a start and end date. Groups are matched based on book (duh), time zone, reading speed, desired meeting frequency, and language.

Welcome any thoughts, feedback, or even throwing shade.

I’m all about anything that leverages technology to promote literacy, analytical thinking, and solid discussion.

Playing the Devil’s advocate for a moment: people are desensitized and don’t want to read or have the attention span to concentrate long enough to focus on absorbing a book enough to discuss it, why would they sign up for this?

We're both right. There are plenty of people who are desensitized and don't want to read, etc. There are also plenty of people who either recognize that reading is an important skill but don't regularly practice it, or even those that do but are surrounded by others who don't share those viewpoints.

I think there are enough of the later group that I could build a business off of it. I'd certainly love to bring the former to recognize the value in reading and growth, but I'll leave that to Tony Robbins. I think that if I can find enough of the people who have already taken the first steps in that direction, I can find the users.

Hopefully I can help at least some of the next generation learn to love reading by supporting a decent charity along the way. It would be great to turn this into something greater that does help convert non-readers to readers, but that is not the place to start.
