The sheer choice of platforms and providers is getting rather overwhelming . I imagine it matters quite little, but I have yet to decide on my own, so I am reaching out to IH for some recommendations.
Factors to consider:
I'm looking to start a brand new newsletter (aka no audience)
I can code (have built my own landing page)
I have domain with email
Would like to start on a free plan, but don't mind paying when the time comes, so it doesn't really matter to me the amount of subscribers on the free plan.
I’ll just add - I’m using ConvertKit for my new newsletter. Have been using it for email marketing and I like working with it. Can code your own templates or use a simple builder. Hosts landing pages, custom domains etc. I don’t use it for email archive (will add my newsletters to a dedicated website) but I believe you can host your archive there.
Revue is free. And can use a custom domain. Older editions are on Revue archive page which will use your custom domain (think you need to use something Cloudflare to make it https and not http - I recall there are instructions on what to do).
The downside of Revue is that it is free 😄 So… there’s potentially more chance of emails going to spam because of other users abusing it. I notice that a lot of double opt in confirmation emails end up in spam.
Look also at free tiers on convertkit and email octopus. Think you can use custom domains on them.
And also mailerlite is very reasonably priced. But annoyingly slow to work in.
Most other email providers have free plans.
One other thing I forgot to mention, how are people will custom domains allowing people to read older editions of the newsletter
