I am still learning on the tech side and have done a bit of design as well- all on side projects. I wanted to get a bit better on the design front although probably not in a full time capacity or anything.

It might be off-putting for you but you should probably first define for yourself what exactly you want to improve - and why ... so you get the desired output.

Really spend the time to understand the difference of UI / UX in terms of the methods and results which are produced
Also, always be thinking about the user (and make sure you are aware that the user != you) and how different they might think or work compared to you. Even if you are in the same country / region their mindset might be totally different.
