Reddit launches AI-Powered Search Engine called "Answers"

In case you haven't see yet. Reddit just launched its own AI-powered search tool: Reddit Answers.

It delivers concise AI answer summaries and includes links to original posts for further exploration. Quite interesting!

Currently, the feature is in beta, only available in English to a limited number of U.S.-based users on desktop and iOS. If it’s not available to you yet, you can sign up for updates here.

I summarized everything I could find out about it including screenshots in my blog post and also recorded a quick video about it.

For years, people (including myself) have been adding “Reddit” to Google searches to skip generic answers and find more human advice.

AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity have used Reddit’s huge pool of user-generated content to provide quick answers as well.

However, since Reddit's recent move to monetize its data through tighter API restrictions and its content deal with Google for direct integration, these tools have pulled back slightly, probably leaving a big enough gap for Reddit to step in.

I think especially for us Indiehackers it could be a real treasure trove to use the AI search to prompt for user pain points in specific niches to find business ideas, get competitor product sentiments... you probably already know a bunch of even more interesting ideas.

Curious how it will evolve. Some people call it a "Google killer" but I highly doubt that's the case. What do you think?
