Redefining GovTech 🚀

NYSgpt leverages frontier ai models to offer a platform and tools for participation in 21st century democracy.

Basics

  1. Start a New Chat with pre-loaded bill, committee, and member context.*

  2. Look up votes, sponsors, committee work, press releases, contracts, lobbyists, budget items, and more. Keep track of things on a dedicated Detail page.

  3. Use BillChat, CommitteeChat, and MemberChat to ask questions about specific items.*

  4. All chats can be converted into Notes and Excerpts for review, or instantly transposed into a Letter of Support. (Sponsors/Co-Sponsors pre-loaded)

  5. Use the Explorer dashboard to chat with the budget line-by-line. Dive into funding at the Appropriation, Category, Function, Fund Type, or Program level.

More Features

Advocacy (In-Chat)

Chat with a bill, understand it, then support or oppose it, write your letter, and send it to the bill sponsor and co-sponsors all in-chat. So nice we said it twice.

Budget Chat*

View 32 years of spending data and chat with a departments budget, years of budget briefs, and financial plans.

Mission Chat

Don't know what a department does? Visit the detail page, view its appropriations, capital budget items, and spending, then chat with its mission and funding directly.

Non Profits Prompts + Directory

You can't do it alone. We know that. So we setup a directory of non profits and advocacy prompts by category to get you started.

Public Prompts

The power is in the question. Submit a prompt, article, or post. Users chat with your prompts and engagement reveals conversation flow. Over time policy flow becomes less fragmented, more coherent; less opaque, more actionable.

Use Cases

Dizzying? It doesn't have to be. Check out pre-packaged use cases categorized by Bills, Committees, Departments, Members, and Policy.

Write Your Own

Leverage sample prompts to draft a bill or map out stakeholders. Convert your chat to a note; make it your own; and export, share, or publish it to the community.

Have fun.

    Congrats on the launch 👏

quick question — did you already set any hard limits on LLM/API spend?

I’ve seen a few indie AI apps get hit by agent loops early on.

    1. 1

Thanks — really appreciate the heads-up.

Yes, we’ve put guardrails in place. We enforce per-user daily word limits before every API call, tiered by plan. On the infrastructure side, we also have hard monthly spend caps and alerting across all LLM providers.

Congratulations on your launch. It looks impressive! What channels are you exploring to attract early users?

    1. 1

Thank you — appreciate that. We’re keeping distribution pretty simple right now.

Most early users are coming through people already using NYSgpt for real work — staffers, journalists, advocates, and policy professionals who share prompts, lists, and briefings with their teams. That kind of sharing is baked into the product, so it tends to travel naturally.

We’ve started posting in places like Indie Hackers and Product Hunt mainly to learn and pressure-test. Right now we’re focused on understanding usage patterns — but we’re very open to learning.

Curious if you’ve seen other channels work especially well for early-stage tools like this.

      1. 1

That makes a lot of sense, especially when it comes to integrating distribution into the workflow. Tools that naturally spread through real work tend to show healthier early engagement compared to those driven solely by raw traffic.

For tools like this, I’ve observed that the most valuable early traction often comes from intent-driven communities where people discuss workflows, prompts, and decision-making. Reddit is particularly effective for this, but it should be approached as research rather than promotion. Posts that ask questions like “How are people handling X today?” or “What’s missing from your current process?” often generate both feedback and attract early adopters in the same discussion.

Indie communities are excellent for gathering feedback from founders, but Reddit usually provides deeper insights into actual usage patterns, especially among professionals, researchers, and policy makers.

If you find it helpful, I can guide you through structuring a small Reddit test for a tool like this. We can talk about selecting the right subreddits, crafting discussion-focused posts, and utilizing comments to understand how people discuss the problem before scaling anything.

Yes. Thank you. What do you suggest?

          1. 1

Great question! Based on your current distribution strategy, I recommend using Reddit primarily as a research and validation channel rather than a traffic generation platform.

For tools like yours, a simple and effective approach is as follows:

            1. Focus on 2–3 Intent-Focused Subreddits

Target communities where people are already discussing prompts, workflows, research, or decision-making instead of generic AI promotion subreddits.

            2. Post Discussion-First Prompts

Ask questions like, “How are teams pressure-testing insights before briefs go out?” or “What breaks most often in collaborative research workflows?” These types of questions help uncover real language and friction points that you can learn from.

            3. Use Comments as Signals

Before introducing your product, take the time to observe how people describe the issues they're facing and what resonates with them. This will give you insight into whether your product positioning is effective.

Additionally, I assist founders in conducting small, structured Reddit experiments, including subreddit selection, post strategies, and insight analysis. I offer this as a service on Fiverr. It’s completely optional, but I’d be happy to share the link if you’re interested in checking it out.
