Reflections on 10,000 Hours of Programming

Nice post. The problem is that some of these reflections are excellent when contributing to an open-source project but almost the opposite when building a commercial tool, especially at the beginning or/and when bootstrapping. How do you balance your "purist side" with the business needs ?
I got in my 10,000 hours like 4 years ago, but I dropped out of college and actually did most my coding part-time as a full-time warehouse worker before getting hired at a small company as a PHP Developer. Now I'm working for Apple. I've started to wonder if all that time spent learning&building was worth it... I just ended up being an anti-social loner. Is getting a high paying job worth all the life experiences I sacrificed to spend 10,000 hours coding? Honestly, I don't know. What do you think?
This is brilliant!!
Interesting points. Would love to know how many hours I'm at!
