Remember social proof - it is amazing. Reflecting on how I first heard of Slack.

I have been validating a current project of mine here. I keep hearing you should integrate with a popular tools XYZ so people onboard easily. @SeanKirby mentioned adding social proof on my landing page.

What I have come to reflect on, is my first interaction with the popular service Slack. One morning nearly four years ago someone sent me an email "Hey, let's try Slack". Went to their landing page and saw a space rover. BIG text saying "NASA uses Slack", signed up immediately without knowing anything about the service.

  1. NASA has an established brand that most people know all around the world.
  2. NASA is using an unknown service Slack.
  3. If you know NASA you should try Slack.

If we do a thought experiment and imagine a world where Slack was not smart enough to get that social validation at the start, what would have happened?

"Do you integrate with Gmail?"
"We already have an internal chat tool. I do not see the value of adding another."
"You built this internally? Can't we just do the same and customize?? It is a chat service right?"

They probably would have become a decent size service, and also most likely not become a default brand.

I think after Slack was successful someone started pushing "We replace internal emails" . Now I hear that more. But that is an after effect from my perspective.

Remember social validation! It seems to me to be, one of the most critical things for a new project.

So.. Telework is a phrase coined by Jack Nilles, a physicist working for NASA, in 1973. I think I should get them to try out MDO and see what they think . They seem to like new services that facilitate Telework :)
