We work and travel the U.S. full time in an RV, camping for free on public lands, most often in remote locations. We prefer the quietness and solitude of the wild, even if that means fetching our own water, and hauling out our waste.

Wow, living the dream! How reliable is mobile internet in the wilderness of the US? What providers do you use?

Mobile internet is definitely a priority, and luckily coverage is pretty decent, but it does require two providers. We have 4G LTE with both AT&T, and Verizon. Most of the time AT&T wins out. We are able to stream (Hulu, Netflix) most everywhere we've been.
Camping for free on public lands is a thing! It's called boondocking, or dry camping. The U.S. has a lot of land managed by the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) and the NFS(National Forest Service). You can legally camp for up to 14 days in most locations. https://campendium.com is an excellent resource for this. I use that together with Google Satellite to find dirt roads heading off to isolated campsites.
