Removed the free version of one of my products - Weekly backlog 2020/08
Besides completing one of my freelance projects, my main task for last week was to remove the free version of Story View. I shared my thoughts previously why I made this decision and nothing happened in the past 2 weeks that would change my mind about it.
Since Friday, the free version of the plugin is not available anymore. While I was doing the necessary changes on the landing page I realized two things. I had to use a static site generator to create my landing page (or Webflow) because maintaining a site that was built with just plain CSS and HTML is not fun, and absolutely not time efficient. The second thing I noticed is that the copy on the landing page is far from great. When I launched the product the content was different on the site but as I added more features I also made some changes there. And while the first time I was focusing on talking about the problem Story View is trying to solve, after I published the new features and the new landing page the content on the page started to be much more about how these features work. Based on what I learned, heard and experienced this is not the right direction. So I got a new task for this week: update the copy on the landing page.
Although I stopped working on some of my projects previously and shut down a few of them, I still have the feeling that I don’t have enough time and energy to maintain the remaining ones. I’m afraid I have to give up on a few more.
