request for feedback -- do you get what I do?

Hey Indie Hackers! Would love any and all feedback on my new site for Beaker.
https://www.hellobeaker.com/

After playing around with a bunch of B2B and B2C tools and features for ~1 year, I've finally settled on a simpler approach: repackage the Beaker features that were difficult to scale & sell, and use them instead as internal tools for a productized service. My goal is to run Beaker as a consultancy as a beta for the beauty product development software I really want to build.

My biggest challenge has been writing copy that's concise, actionable, and explains what I do. I've recently come to terms that what I do may not be that simple, but my value prop should be.

Because I'm bringing a relatively new type of service to market, describing it in terms people already know has been tricky. I've found the more I take out discussions of my secret sauce, or any mention of chemistry--aka the more I don't talk about what I actually do--the more people get it. Still, it’s my exact expertise (custom formulation for top tier beauty brands) that justifies why you would come to Beaker, and not the ex-marketerer product development consultant that’s already in your network.

I guess it's more a matter of selling on value prop, not on the how. I need help better striking this balance.

Hey Lizzy, I got it straight away. You formulate for new brands. Love the idea. Would love to connect and find out how it's going. Cheers Simon

    Hi Lizzy,

Seems like there's lots of potential for a really cool marketing page here.

I'd look at ways to make it easier for a potential buyer to relate to what you do and understand how you can help them.

    1. You have a list of exciting companies that have used your service. I would love to have seen company logos above the fold.

    2. Put the main call to action above the fold (book a one hour consultancy)

    3. Case studies and images could also be really useful to bring your service to life. Maybe a few words about what you did for them. If you can, get an endorsement from a client.

    4. Make it more about you! As a consultant, you are selling yourself. Bring out your expertise and personality more. Include a picture of yourself (perhaps holding a beaker), pictures of you running workshops, giving presentations etc.

    Good luck!

Thanks for this! I like the idea of putting myself more into the product, and of putting in case studies. I do see how putting a face and examples to things make it all the more real.

I don't know anything about this field and I'm probably not your target customer.

But my gut reaction is that your "services" page should be your landing page. Looking at the services, it's so clear what you offer. This makes sense because it's "we do this and you pay us for it." That's all the value prop needs to be.

One improvement I think would be to change the headline on the services page:

Beaker translates your brand vision into strategic product development
    to
Turn your brand vision into strategic product development

I have listened to the book "Building a storybrand" about 10 times and the biggest takeaway for me has been that the customer is the hero in the story and your product/company is the guide. I highly recommend that book if you're trying to come up with better copy. It provides a whole framework for developing marketing materials.

Again, I'm not someone creating beauty products or even know anything about the space. Just my generic feel

If you know people who are your target customers (or where to find those people) just ask them to look at your website and what they think you do. Repeat until they are getting the message correctly! (The Mom Test is another great book that's about talking to customers!)

Wow, thanks so much for this insight. I first approached copy as "here's what I can give you," but I like framing it as "here how you will succeed." And now that I think of it, the landing page doesn't say anything more than the services page, and the services page says it better. Thanks for the fresh perspective!

        For sure!

Happy to help again if you ever need it :)

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments, especially with your perspective on CTAs and initial thoughts. I hear you on the font/color styles, I see now just how unreadable it is, yikes! Thanks again!!
