I'm working on this product requests newsletter and I'd love to have feedback on the 2nd version of the landing page.
Here's the link http://requestforproduct.xyz/
It would be awesome if you could answer some of this questions:
Is it clear for you the benefits of the product?
Would you use it?
What is missing?
How do you usually look for new product ideas?
Thanks.
Yes, it's clear what you do and yes the value add is clear.
Would I use it? No, my problem is not lack of ideas. Lack of time and resources is a bigger challenge.
What is missing? Maybe options for how regularly the emails go out. Options to get them daily, weekly, or monthly might be nice.
To keep track of new products/developments I generally browse Kickstarter, read MIT Download, and listen to startup podcasts.
Hope that helps,
Ofc it helps, even if it's just to open a discussion 🙂
You mentioned that your problem is not the lack of ideas so, I assume you're on the other side, the requesting side.
Do you share your ideas with the world in order to get validation? Or even someone to make them?
Yeah, for the most part I throw them up on my blog because I figure if I don't have time but it strikes a chord with someone else then they're welcome to run with it. There are a select few that I'm keeping to myself in the hopes of doing it after the current startup takes off. Since I don't have the capital to pay someone I never ask anyone to build my ideas; I hate the "do it for free to add to your portfolio" thing.
What about something like this https://twitter.com/PBBroyles/status/1198626817365573633?s=19
Ah ok, sort of crowd sourcing ideas. So if someone had a similar idea maybe one project can kill two birds. Totally makes sense.
My question is, how could this be monetized?
Ok, so first you need to know my opinions on monetization because if you don't agree with those then you won't agree with my thoughts, which is OK. The business model of "we do the same as our competitor but cheaper" undercuts someone else's work and is not super morally/ethically sound. The business of "selling eyeballs" is a fickle business that relies on an addictive product at which point you might as well just be peddling crack.
So all that in mind, I don't think selling advertising space around product requests is viable because it's not sticky enough. And, I don't think duplicating what IH or ProductHunt are already doing is really viable either.
What I do thinking might be viable is:
1.) The ability to "buy ideas" so when someone looks at the idea a link shows up saying "Such-and-such product already does this (or is going to do this)".
2.) Once ideas are bought then it becomes sort of like UserVoice in that it's a place for users to say "I wish the product did X" or upvote functionality.
I see the value in your idea, monetizing it seems challenging though.
I totally agree with your thoughts. I don't what to copy pH or oh neither sell adds.
I don't know if it could be a viable solution for companies to test feature ideas.
Anything along those lines.
What do you think?
