Hi fellow indie hackers,
Shit is hitting the fan in our hospitals and at least in my (bay area) hospital we are already running out of masks and bleach wipes because visitors (and some employees) have stealing them by the box from outside our rooms.
I've been preaching to the choir as our social media followers are all in medicine, but if anyone can think of a way/project or contacts with traditional media to find a way to organize or get people people to donate back to their local hospitals and clinics.. it is getting really scary and our workers don't have a way to protect themselves as we take care of your families and friends.
Would love any ideas. We're getting really desperate.
Hi Gerald,
Would this help you - https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.3dprintingmedia.network/3d-printed-face-shields-hong-kong-coronavirus/amp/
I’m in the UK, have a few 3d printers who’ve agreed to start production if the hospitals here feel they need it.
Plastic sheets are detachable, much easier to mass produce than n95s. My concern is this is not a replacement for an n95, is it worth it? Better than nothing should masks run out?
Would be easy to reproduce anywhere in the world including the US.
We need both- to protect our faces and eyes from spread but also to help shield our facemasks because we're being forced to recycle our masks :/ Official policy is to throw away after use but we can't do that when we know the stocks are low...
Is there a simple elegant solution you could try?
For example, stamp all the front of the masks with ‘hospital property’ so potential thieves would be deterred from wearing the masks in public and hopefully stealing them in the first place.
Hopefully this could be done by someone less in demand than the doctors.
A quicker way could be to dip the masks in a non-toxic clothes dye, that has a specific colour, say orange. Then get the word out to local press that all orange masks are property of the hospitals. Again, trying to use the public shaming disincentive.
A bit too late for that now, we need replenished supplies. If you see an N95 in public, purchased or not they're hurting our healthcare workers.. you should not need masks if we are isolating and social distancing.
This was posted last week, I'm not sure how genuine it is. https://www.indiehackers.com/post/selling-masks-to-help-with-the-coronavirus-crisis-2ddca58a6e
Please if anyone can help we are having serious supply issues around the country-
Idiots like these have been stealing from our hospitals:
Your nurses and docs need to be able to protect ourselves. Many healthcare workers are themselves immune compromised.
