I recently founded SEOBrrr, a simple tool helping non-technical marketers and content creators create programmatic SEO campaigns.
It's a standard SAAS with monthly and annual subscriptions. However, recently, I was thinking about fellow indie hackers who may be a bit more frugal - you know, trying to launch their own successful products and all - who may prefer a one-time-fee option.
A standard subscription offers template/data creation and hosting for campaigns. What if, as an alternative to the ongoing subscriptions, I allow users to create their campaign and export the results? This would require the users to then import or copy/paste the post content and set it all up, but at least they wouldn't have to pay for an ongoing subscription.
Do you have any thoughts? From a user's or product founder's perspective?
From a user's perspective, it's a bit more work but maybe worth it for the one-time fee.
From a product founder's perspective, I think that maybe it allows me to acquire a different level of customer? My only issue is when do I charge the customer - when they sign up or when they export? I would say when they export, but then I wouldn't want them to store a ton of data just sitting on my server for free until they hopefully, one day export and pay. But maybe I worry about that later ...
