Hey IH,
Long-time lurker, incredibly shy poster.
Almost 3 years ago now I built an MVP for a Universal Chat App. The idea being you could seamlessly communicate with people from all around the globe each speaking different languages but all understanding each other.
Fast forward to today and the only thing that came of it was I use it as something on my resume when I'm job interviewing. And it doesn't even work anymore.
So I'm resurrecting it! The code is old and that the amount of work to get it running wasn't worth the effort so I'm rewriting it. And actually gather feedback on it this time rather than losing it to the ether.
I'm tweeting about it if anyone is interested in following my progress @willports. It'll mostly be brain dumps and technical issues that arise but I'm building it Sails.js which is like Rails except it's built in Node.js for real-time apps if that interests you as well.
https://poly.chat if you're interested in seeing the original app.
All the best and I look forward to being a more engaged IH contributor in 2020!
Hi ! What about this ? https://www.viber.com/blog/2018-09-05/translate-messages-in-chat-instantly/
Hey LeoNeo,
Thanks for the suggestion. I've had a look around at the offerings from the major chat apps. Viber for instance you have to tap each message to manually translate it. What I'm trying to build can definitely be accomplished using apps like Viber, Messenger and Telegram but my aim is to make it more integrated and seamless rather than tacked like an after thought.
I guess a good question would be; When was the last time anyone had a conversation with someone in another language on any chat platform?
Cheers
