Roast my idea (and landing page )!

Hey fellow founders and digital nomads. This is my first thread here, and I hope I don't get banned! Wanted to hear your roasting, sizzling thoughts on my website, and potentially an idea while we're at it!

I've been working on a project lately called https://coinlectic.com and managed to put up a boilerplate website, well, if I can even call this a website. Just a hero section I should say with a Typeform to get feedback from potential TA.

Right now I'm in the process of validating my idea for the product. The niche I choose is quite specific – numismatics (coin collecting). Being a coin collector, and history freak – I thought to myself – "Man, the current user experience with numismatics sucks (with a couple of exceptions). Like come on, we're living in 2022, why do things in the Numismatic world look like they're from 2000s."

There are productivity tools for everything nowadays, and I felt numismatics kinda got skipped out on this. From personal experience, I always felt this excruciating pain of keeping my collection in order, from photos and descriptions to documents such as incoming invoices from auctions. Also, the items I wanted to buy / or sell – were spread across multiple places. Oh, and sometimes I would just miss out on coins that I really wanted to purchase!

There was never a full visibility of my hobby, and a whole spectrum of little things which honestly got on me and were killing the joy I was having from coin collecting.

Sure, one would say coin collectors could use Notion or Airtable per se, but I feel like these would feel a bit off for this TA. They do solve the majority of problems above, but I feel like they're loaded with things they don't need, and the feature set can be customized specifically for numismatics and other collecting activities (collecting stamps, medals, etc)

Back to business: This idea came to me a couple of years ago, when I started working in a digital design agency, learning about web dev, ui/ux, product design, and growth hacking (of course)... This month me and my colleagues created a quick Visual Identity (well, just a look and feel really), and shortly after I decided to hammer the social networks like IG, LinkedIn, TG, and FB so I could build a community of coin enthusiasts around this wonderful hobby.

Right now I'm in Idea Validation stage, nothing set in stone and the plan right now is to:

  1. build a small community (around a 1000-2000 people) by growing it organically with relevant content. By the way you can take a look here – https://instagram.com/coinlectic

  2. get at least get 50 Typeform responses before I commit to actually building a platform or investing my resources into it

  3. analyze responses and see how I fit within the market and if I should pivot the product

  4. creating a product user flow + use a no-code solution to build a product

  5. try launching and testing it with a limited group of people

  6. V.2 (???)

So far I've invested about $200 in the thing, and mostly work on weekends, and whenever I have free time. Not planning to invest much further right now, at least until I have a clear idea if this deserves to live.

Excited to hear any thoughts on my website and generally what u think of my idea 💡

Kindly yours!

How does the coinlectic look to you?
  1. Dude, great job on design. It looks mature af, branding is superb!
  2. You gotta work on responsiveness, otherwise, it's ok...
  3. This is terrible man, such a waste of time and money.
  4. Can I join and work together with you on this?

I really like coinlectic's instagram page, nice pictures and great content. Good job!

The design looks very clean. The only thing I found confusing was the "Rome wasn't built in a day" heading. For someone not familiar with this space, how does that relate to rare coin collecting?

Also, could you share what platform you used to create your page? It's great.

      Hi Albert, appreciate your feedback.

Yes, I was thinking what should I say in the heading… And used something a bit creative than saying something like “website is under construction”.

I’ll consider changing it to something more meaningful though!

This page is created from scratch, using html, tailwind css, and some javascript. Vercel was also used for deployment.

      thank you!

The only way to find out is to put ads out there and watch how people respond; maybe at first you could provide services where you perform all those automatic things manually and see if people are willing to pay for it. This is the only way to prove that your idea really works. Everyone enjoys a good conversation, but as soon as one of them reaches into their pocket for anything, they forget everything they were saying. Of course, you may point out that it's a solid plan only if it results in financial gain. Communicating is a popular past time. Please use the email address shown on the Unicamel.io website if you have any queries or need assistance vetting this proposal.
