Roast-my-idea: FAQ as service

I am thinking of providing FAQ as a service. Devs can login/edit/ their faq Questions & Answers on web app and they can link it to their website (Either as a saas or embedded faq page).

What do you think of this idea?

Why do you need to pay for the faq? It is easy to make a own faq.

If you want to edit faq frequently and if you have lot of faqs with diagrams etc.. My idea is to provide not just a API but also specific themes which can directly be embedded into your site.

I think this service should be free. Maybe you can upsell some special service, but I my eyes it isnt woth its money.

I don't think it will fly.

Sure, everyone should have an FAQ, but it's not a massive paint-point to create it. As an indie-dev I just create a flat FAQ (e.g. https://keepthescore.co/about/) and spend time on the stuff that will bring my project forward. Having a super slick FAQ will not do that and I wouldn't pay for it.

    Enough roasting? 😉

Isn't that what Zendesk (and many others) offer out of the box?
If so, what makes your offering unique? What niche that isn't catered to are you helping?

My idea is not a complete customer ticket system like Zendesk only about easy maintenance of FAQ's.

I actually didn't find it easy to make my own FAQ, and I've been a software engineer for 10+ years 😂😂

I wanted an automatically generated table of contents for the questions, but the markdown TOC plugin generated something that didn't look great. Then I had to write a plugin to my static site generator to automatically apply the necessary bootstrap classes to the generated HTML. https://readme.money/faq.html

Can you explain your idea more? Would it have helped me?

Lets say you are using my faq idea, this is what you do.

1- Login to my faq site..
      2- Enter questions and answers.
3- Select a Theme (if it is not api based)
4- it will provide you a custom faq javascript code which you will embed into your site.
5- Next time when you change the faq on my site it will automatically displays the latest on your site.

In a way you wont do the adding faqs to your html, formatting, css etc... on your own, you will just embed one simple javascript stuff in your code. That's it.

For me personally, I wouldn't want to embed javascript or an iframe on my site to manage an FAQ. I guess because it's another moving part -- potentially slow and adds security risk. If you would generate HTML for me, maybe I'd do it.

But perhaps I'm not your target audience. Who would be your target audience?

Web businesses/startups? Small businesses with a web presence? Or people making personal website?

It seems like your audience would have to not already be using webdesk software, yet still want something better than what a sitebuilder like Squarespace provides in a WYSIWYG.

What do you think? Just trying to get some ideas rolling...

Any websites which are on static hosting want to only update the FAQ will benefit with this.

Target audience are the ones who got lots of FAQ and need to update them without republishing their complete website.

Looks like there are plenty of downloads of relevant WordPress plugins, so I don't doubt there is a need: https://kinsta.com/blog/wordpress-faq-plugins/

I guess the main question is if there are indeed static site builders who are willing to pay for the convenience of not uploading or making their own theme.

            I don't know!

Not sure what your idea is.
