Many people spent a lot of time on social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
Some spent time doing marketing, connecting with friends/family.
Some to get famous, increase their fan base, showcase there talent
Many to just timepass, consume content (Watch videos), Like/react to other posts, comment, reshare and etc.
and a lot more.
MANY users don't get any monetary benefit out of it and consider it a waste of time.
I'm thinking of a new social media which rewards users for spending time on it. So users get rewarded for staying active, adding friends, liking, commenting, sharing, managing groups/pages, etc.
These points can be redeemed, converted to cash, used to buy some products, get discount vouchers, etc.
First reaction: High barrier to entry. TikTok has been pouring billions and billions to compete and attract creators.
Second reaction: some tailwinds in the space of data & security (e.g., neeva as the no ad google search engine) and there muse be a social media serving us vs. us being the product etc.
Third reaction: you should not be rewarded for renting your eyeballs. The creators who are creating entertaining/ knowledge based contents are the one to be rewarded. The portion of ad revene is increasingly tilting towards creators and with time we might witness some social wars (youtube vs. tiktok vs. fb/insta vs. snap)?
