Roast my ideas
I have a few ideas, not sure how good they are:
- A map based job board. People can see on a map who is hiring locally
- A map based (i like maps) site for musicians looking for other local musicians to play with
- A platform for people moving property that allows them to track what documents are outstanding and where they are in the completion process.
First two sound interesting. Would be tough to overcome the big players in the job space. Maybe come up with a way to have an addon map service for those existing services
Completely agree! The market is already really crowded and tough to get into. But I could see the idea with the addon working out quite nicely
#1-2 - I'm not sure why a map would be very helpful compared to just putting in your zip code and limiting it to X miles away.
#3 - I don't know enough about but if you're talking real estate doesn't the realtor usually keep track of that for you?
Your first idea is very close to what I’m building with Rural Jobs right now (https://ruraljobsscotland.co.uk). It’s a job board focused on jobs available anywhere (remote) and jobs everywhere (currently focused on rural Scotland because that’s where I live). I’m leaning towards maps that show jobs, but also features people want to live near (parks, trail, lakes, etc).
I love the sound of being able to find a job near a natural feature you want to live near! How have you found building it so far?
Building it has been fun - I'm a developer so that's the part I love. I've also been working remotely for 7+ years, and involved in hiring at the companies I've worked for. So a job board combines a lot of interests. Nearly ready to launch, just trying to get legal stuff all cleaned up.

that's very similar to the what I was thinking about! Looks awesome! If you don't mind me asking, how did you get over the chicken egg issue with the initial job postings?
By making something for the community we are in.
In previous years, I would've solely looked for local jobs, but with remote work becoming more and more popular, it's allowed me to expand my search beyond a single location. Curious to see how the first idea could embed this in.
I like the first idea. I'd recently wondered why I wasn't able to see distance from my home when it comes to job search. Would these jobs be relegated to a specific industry or open-ended? (Used to run the job quality department at a highly recognized job board, let me know if you want insight)
Thanks! My initial thoughts were to have it for a pretty niche industry (bar staff / cleaners etc), but honestly haven't spent a massive amount of time thinking about that aspect of it
