Hi everyone, I'm Naomi. I've been running a Substack newsletter for 2 months now and got 101 subscribers.
Not a big number but I feel so happy with the opportunity it provides me with connecting with other amazing people.
The newsletter is called Mind Your Bite, sharing tips and resources to help creators to work less and achieve more.
The focused topics are productivity, creativity, and tools/resources to help you simplify workflow.
Recently, I re-made my landing page with Carrd.
I'd really appreciate it if you can offer me some feedback. Any recommendations on the copy, design, and structure is very much welcome!
Thanks in advance! 🧡
I have sessions in my newsletter where I share with my readers an interesting newsletter/podcast as well as helpful tools for creators.
If you're interested in a cross promotion or want your creation featured, feel free to tag me here or on Twitter (@mindyourbite).
Here's a recent issue to give you an idea of the newsletter's structure:

Fantastic start!
I feel like to should put social proof higher and even include some sample content in screenshot.
I am also a fan of substack, currently writing about the virtual event industry. Happy to exchange opinions ;)
Thanks for your suggestion. 😍 I will try rearranging the session to see if it works. The screenshot idea is brilliant. I'm just worried the space is too small and adding images will make it cluttered. 🤔
Btw, I really enjoy your newsletter, especially the interview session with business founder. What an original idea! It's so interesting to learn something new from a creator's perspective each week. You just have a new subscriber!
Hey Naomi,
I have reviewed the copy on the the page and I feel like it can be a lot clearer and more concise. I have changed it slightly, let me know what you think.
Are you working too much and not achieving enough? Every Sunday "Mind Your Bite Newsletter" delivers 10 tools & tips to help you work less and achieve more.
You have got yourself another subscriber by the way :).
Thank you so much!! 😍 This seems a lot more concise. I'm gonna make change to it soon.
And thanks for becoming a subscriber! I hope you'd enjoy the upcoming issue.
Awesome content, Naomi. Just read the 90-percent-rule issue. It was insightful. Subscribed to the newsletter. Also connected with you on Twitter (@thearslankhalid).
Thanks so much! Love to get to know you more on Twitter too!
My 3 main suggestions.
1. Highlight better the problem
The graphic of the page is nice, but the focal point is the website title.
That tells me where I am, and not much else.
As a reader I have my problems in mind. I land on your page and I give it a quick look. My question is: "Can you help me with my problems?"
If yes, I'm happy to give you my attention. Otherwise I won't stay long.
Did you consider to present a question like: "Do you have Problem X?"
If I have it, then I know I'm in the right place.
Maybe something like: "Too much work, without achieving enough?"
Writing the copy after that become much easier.
In the sub you promise to eliminate that problem. And then you can present your newsletter as the solution.
2. Form above the fold
With Substack you can embed the subscription form in the page.
And is better to put the form above the fold. Now I have to scroll down to see the button.
It's a free newsletter so people choose quickly if they want it or not.
3. Make the message more concrete
This may be correlated with the first point. I have a general feeling that you talk about productivity, but can you tell me something more specific in the section above the fold?
For example what do you mean with "# only the essentials"?
I like much better the part in which you present the main elements of the newsletter. That gives me a concrete expectation. You can't put all that above the fold, but something more specific in that section will give a more concrete message to the reader.
Let me know if this makes sense for you.
Sam
Thank you so much, Sam. Your suggestions really make a lot of sense!!
You are right. The copy above the fold doesn't provide much context of what the newsletter is about. It's not clear what the reader will benefit. I'm working on it now as you suggest.
I'm adding "only the essentials" since it's the topic I'm exploring now in my newsletter. I want to stress the importance of dropping the unnecessary to focus on the essential tasks. But it doesn't quite fit in the intro as I intended.
I will also adjust the paragraph to have the form above the fold. But for now I can only have the button because I'm on a free plan with Carrd.
I can't thank you enough for having pointed out all the problems for me. I'm working on them now and will come up with an updated version soon.
I like the simplicity of it. It goes well with your emphasis/interest in minimalism.
Up top, instead of a paragraph, perhaps do a list, e.g.
## Only the essentials.
Of course, you are welcome to change anything or ignore it altogether. :)
All the best.
Wow, this sounds way better than the original paragraph. Thanks so much for the suggestion!! 🧡 I'm gonna apply it to the landing page soon.
