Roast my landing page and I will roast yours v2

Three weeks ago I had an idea and submitted the first version of the landing page on IH and got the most amazing feedback. I've been iterating on it and would love to once again have your feedback.

Please check it out here: https://bkmark.io

Please share your landing page too and I'll give you my feedback.

Thanks

    Hey Boris!

Just recorded a quick video and went over your landing page.

Let me know what you think!

    1. 1

Hi @dqmonn, I really like this video style of reviews! It really captures the first initial thought you have as a user. This really adds to the authenticity of the review.

    2. 1

Thanks you very much for your very detailed feedback @dqmonn! I will act on it asap, a lot of gems in the video :D !

There's a lot to love here. I find your copy sharp and engaging. Your three section headers ("bookmark from anywhere", "keep your bookmarks organised", "sit back and relax") would work as both features and section hyperlinks at the top of the page (probably reword the third one to "auto-tidies so you can relax" or something).

I find the body copy font hard to read at a scan.

I'd put your bookmark Vs either side of the header image, not the screenshot - that's visually interesting enough as it is. The Vs also help your branding, so they'd be right up-top for me.

If you're going to left-align the header content, I'd also put the "Yes, sign me up" on the left-hand margin of that section too - it looks odd out there in the centre. You probably don't need the top right-hand sign-up button until they start scrolling down and the banner for it appears.

I like the "how it works" image with the hand-drawn arrows, that's neat. I'd reduce the size of the image though, so the callouts can appear around the sides of the image. That section feels a bit chaotic at the moment, which isn't the vibe you want for your system which brings order to your bookmarks.

    Hope that helps!

Amazing! Thanks for your thorough feedback @jaymie !

The idea with branding with the "Vs" is brilliant, thanks; I'll reposition them and see how it looks like.

I will act on all the points you mentioned, thanks a lot!

Don't hesitate to send your page and I'll give my feedback too :).

Glad to help :o) The existing landing page for my product is here, though we're currently testing a completely rebuilt version of the product, so there'll be a new landing page in the next month or so:

    Hi @boristane,

I like your idea and the fact that it was created by a problem which you were looking to solve for yourself, we've followed a similar approach for everypage 😊

I've answered your questions below, let me know if you have any queries.

    What's Awesome?
The fact that the product resolves a number of pain points e.g. lots of bookmarks on different devices. I think you might have been able to do this as you're user 1 of the product so it'll be good to regularly check in with yourself when building your features and roadmap (as well as your others users once they've joined of course).

    What's Boring?
I'm not a fan of the name "bkmark" as it doesn't feel like something I'll remember but it is relatable to the product so it's good in that sense.

    What's Confusing?
I like the video demo as it's the best way to give the reader an understanding of the product. Unfortunately I was a bit lost when the video started as I wasn't sure if the product was browser based or an app itself. I then thought I'd rewind to the start but I wasn't able to do so, instead I waited until the end and rewatched as I wanted to make sense of it to share feedback (but I don't think you can't rely on all users spending time to do this).

    What Didn't you believe?
Is it really as easy to use as shown in the demos 👀 I'm sure it is and I wish you all the best in your journey!

    1. 2

Thanks for your feedback @krupali !

Yes, the idea for me is to keep talking to customers and potential customers as often as possible and make sure I keep focus on customer needs.

I will act on improving the messaging about the platforms where the service works and make it clearer in the video :)

      1. 1

        No problem.

        Thanks great to hear!

We'd love to get your roast of our landing page if possible :)

        1. 2

          Your landing page looks great!

You could do a bit of work on the copy:
"No need to learn HTML or CSS" => "Build your landing page without coding." or something in those lines.
"Great structure without drag & drop" => "Don't guess the right structure for your landing page"
"Focus on your value proposition" => "Focus on what makes your business special"
"No lock in" => "You own the code"
"'made with everypage' branding" => "everypage branding"

Also make sure you are consistent on the naming: "15 sites"; is everypage focus on websites or landing pages?

The get started buttons lead to empty pages.

I would also reduce the drop shadow on the nav bar and make the page room to breathe. The sections and the colors are a bit tight, there isn't much spacing.

Moreover, it would be awesome if you could show me the product, ie, a simple image, gif or video of how the product actually looks like, before I commit to signing up :)

          Hope this helps!

          1. 1

Thank you sooo much @boristane 😊

This is really insightful and actionable feedback, particularly on the language we've used which could certainly be much simpler! It's the same advice I give other people but I haven't done this enough myself. I really appreciate you taking the time to share this, thanks!

I find your video screenshot a bit difficult to watch. It's a bit too slow and also you are wandering around with your mouse, distracting me and making me confused. It would good to watch more clear moves.

Would love your feedback (Especially on the copy) on this: https://easyrestaurant.carrd.co/

    thanks in advance!

    1. 1

Hi @unremute, thanks for your comments! The video is a tad slow, you're right.

With regards to your page, I don't understand what your product actually does. Restaurant marketing, yes, but how? It could be flyers, or an app, or a suite of tools, or a person at the door greeting people and collecting their preferences in a notebook.

The copy is actually good, in the sense that it's straight and concise; but I think it lacks clarity. this -> "Create long term relationships and great experiences without being tech savvy." is a very generic phrase that I can use for basically any product aimed at any sort of store. I can't recommend much as I do not understand what your product does, but here I think you should say what makes your product special; how is it gonna radically change the way your customers interact with their clients?

Moreover, the paragraph with "Let them" is pretty repetitive and also not specific to your product, I would make it shorter and more tailored to your product.

  5. 1

    What's Awesome?
You are good at copywriting so your landing page is clear, but you can improve it so much more.

    some things to fix

    • your links at the bottom (Twitter & Instagram), make them open in a new tab.
    • put your pricing.html file in a folder like this /pricing/index.html and redirect to /pricing instead of pricing.html.

    What's Boring?
Your landing page design needs a fix, I highly recommend frontendor.com (full package of landing page UI in HTML to build a modern landing page in one day as a developer)

Good luck Boris and keep going.

    1. 1

      Hi @hamzoun!

Thanks for your feedback and the reminder about not redirecting straight to the html file.

      I'll check out frontendor.com too :)

  6. 1

Hi Boris, I really like your landing page! I enjoy the clear messaging, but there was 1 question I still had what kind of app is this? Do I use it as SaaS or is it integrated in chrome as an extension?

    1. 1

Thanks @Treviergits, this is something that has come up in other roasts :)

I will make it clearer in the upcoming iterations; basically it's a web app to browse the bookmakrs with a chrome extension widget to save them; once the MVP is up and running, I'll consider a mobile application for browsing and saving bookmarks on the go!

      1. 1

Awesome, sounds cool! thanks for the clarification

  7. 1

Love it! I want to create a similar landing page with screengrabs where parts of the app are labelled. Did you use a tool for this or did you build it from scratch?

    1. 2

Hi @faraaz, this is plain html and css :)

  8. 1

Can you roast mine stackious.com. I will do the same soon.

    1. 1

      Hey @KaydYonis!

First thing, your website is not on https, I would start by fixing that :)

Something I learned from the IH community is to use SVGs, especially for the logos. You'd benefit from that too.

There is a lot of text, which I didn't real, and the capital letters do not help grab my attention. I would reduce the amount of text and make the important text stand out by highlighting it with colors or underline, rather than capital letters.

The gifs are a little blurry, I would use videos or high res gifs instead.

The video is a bit fast, I'd keep it to normal speed, such that the person visiting the page can actually follow what's happening.

The colors on the header when hovering don't really match your color palette. Yould change it to a matching color.

      1. 1

Hey Boristane. Thanks a ton for the honest feedback. Will fix those ASAP. How about the product idea and concept though?

        1. 1

Hey @KaydYonis, I'm not sure about the product idea, but on the other hand I'm a noob when it comes to sales. Learning from other indie hackers. The landing page is very wordy and shows the product but it didn't convince me that I will get more leads using the product.

  9. 1

    What's Awesome?
Very clear value proposition. The video was actually a bit mesmerising, I watched it loop for a bit. Since I was watching it anyway you actually could have had some text on the side I would have acknowledged.

What's Boring?
The chosen images on the video. I'm sure you could find some more beautiful pictures but that's nitpicking.

    What's Confusing?
The little arrow that you click on in the video not sure what happens at that point.

    What Didn't you believe?
I don't believe this is a problem because delicious and pinboard.in are just not enough in demand. I'd love if it were and you were to create a pinboard.in extension based off of the tags. But I don't believe I or anyone else would be willing to pay for it.

    Please share your landing pa
    www.custorian.com

    1. 2

Thanks for your feedback @tell_me_a_story !

      I will investigate the pinboard.in integration :) .

      On your page:

      What's awesome?
The product! I actually like the idea very much!

      What's boring?
The animations on the page when scrolling, they look nice at first, but I wonder if they actually add to the experience. Also, the repetition of "Each of our tours". I think you can improve the copy to speak to the user, rather than speak about the product. Something in the lines of "Discover world renowned experts in their favourite local art experiences"

      What's confusing?
Do I have to travel? Is it online? How much does it cost? Is it just visual arts? How about music and cinema? I live in London but I couldn't click on London...

      What Didn't you believe ?
Nothing to be honest, which is a pretty good sign :)

      1. 1

That is wonderful feedback thank you very much. The user-focused language is something I can address straight away.

A perhaps opportunity with pinboard integration is that although the community is small they are all customers, paying money and very much engaged.

  10. 1

    What's Awesome?
The first message captures attention,I love the fact that it starts making you think about the many times bookmarking has been painful and it sets the whole thing in motion, you really want to scroll and learn more

    What's Boring?
The sign up on top and right after the first message ,kinda makes someone think you are trying to get them in without them exploring the options they have to sign up for...

    What's Confusing?
The Podcast in the page, not sure is part of the landing page for bookmark or it's an extension of some work you are doing

    What Didn't you believe?
Wow it feels simple to use and flawless...keep up the good job, really like your stuff.

    1. 1

Thanks for your feedback @Bettyk !

I'll investigate further the concern with the sign-up button at the top :) .

The podcast was just a theme to tie together the illustrations as used by a "real" person. I now understand how it can be confusing, I'll re-consider that.

      Your page:

Pretty good stuff, I like the photos! Things I would improve:

      • The first sub-heading "We are a community of social..." has a couple of types and it's a very long sentence.
      • I would rethink the copy on the two main buttons: "I am a business owner" => "I run a business"; "I have a skill" => "I'm a mentor" or something along those lines.
      • Overall double check spelling mistakes, consistency in how Covid is spelled and spaces, commas, etc...
      • The color contrast when the burger menu is pretty harsh, maybe revisit the colors palette ?

      Overall great initiative!

      1. 1

Thank you so much @boristane I really appreciate...I will work on it...the color thing is one of my weakness,I will see how I can get someone to help me fix that
