Roast my MVP

Hi guys,

A few days ago, I launched Pulsly on PH and ended up at #12 with 110 upvotes.
I’m now looking for feedback, so if you want to roast my MVP (100% free) or just my landing page, I would love it.

Have a great day.

Thanks.

Did you go the "build it and they'll come" way or did you run previous MVPs validating your ideas?

    1. 1

At first, I was searching for a changelog embed for my other projects and I found existing solutions for big companies with a lot of features and significant pricing, so I built a simpler version for myself.

Cool. Scratching your own itch I see. Is the product built already or is the landing page the MVP? (Perhaps testing if there’s traffic, though it sounds like there’s a market for it)

        1. 1

Yes the product is built, simple but it works.

          1. 1

Can't promise much, but I'll try and test it! Seems cool.

It's pretty wordy but why would I want a news feed on my website

I think the landing page itself is pretty nice! Definitely better-designed than mine. Coming into this having never used a product like this before, these are my immediate thoughts:

    1. The use cases section is cool but doesn't tell me what ultimate benefit I might get from integrating. Is it more engaged users --> might convert them from free to paying if they see that there's a feature they like?

    2. It would be cool if the mock ups of the notifications are actually filled in instead of a block of colour.

    3. I'm a little bit undecided about whether it's better to have a single use case (i.e., as a SaaS builder, I want to tell my users about new features so that they'll convert to paid or upgrade to a higher tier) or to stick with what it is now. It's pretty difficult to tell who exactly this is for. Ecommerce, content or SaaS?

Thanks, I will now focus only changelog for Saas, it will be easier since it's already a proven solution.

I like it! it's not perfect but in my opinion you should pivot into a more attractive pitch. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems the problem is that not that many people are interested and not that you have done something wrong, research what other problems you can solve with the same tech, third party advertisement maybe. good luck!

Thanks, I now pivoted into changelog for Saas.

Hi Hugo, I think the first thing to say is it actually isn't a bad homepage at all! Very nice colour pallette. I have a couple points to share but nothing to outrageous. Great effort.

    My thoughts:

    • The big arrow at the top of the page, yes attention grabbing but also slightly off-putting, it's the first thing I seen before I even read the title which should tell me what the product is about. Maybe something a little more subconcious like an animation? (a pulse? seeing as the product is called Pulsly)
      - The sections flow too freely into one another, use slightly different background colours on some of the sections to segregate the content?
    • The images you use to display what your product does, has very little content. I find it hard to digest what these are telling me about your product without going back and forth to the text.

Over all, great effort and good luck with the product!

FYI you have an eye-catching typo on the homepage: "Beautiful eye-cacthing widgets"

I see you fixed it, but now I see "Build trust, crediblity, and convert more." Gotta use the spell check bud.

I kinda disagree with some of the other comments and think that by reading just the tagline and first paragraph I understand what it does. What I think you should communicate more/better is why having a newsfeed of this kind can help users use the product "at its full potential". What does that mean exactly?

  8. 1

In terms of the landing, I struggle to understand it in the first few seconds. There are blank containers which look great aesthetically but doesn't convey any meaning unless I also read the texts.

I think making the assets more contextful would help a lot.

Clean, well-laid-out design with a lot of white space which looks great. For the landing page, figuring out the value of your product is a little tricky. It lacks basic storytelling and how as a business owner, this would solve any current problems I would have. I would add more potential pain points of your potential users and how your product will fix those problems.

    1. 1

      Yes I agree, thanks.

    So I am running a SaaS product and could be a potential user of your product. Here are my thoughts after hitting the landing page in order;

    • Firstly, my initial feeling is that this product is for E-commerce companies
    • I read your H1 and H2, but I need to see how a newsfeed is valuable to me; why does it matter if my customer is informed about updates to my software?
    • I scroll and see a Shopify logo and images that appear from e-commerce; if I weren't giving feedback, I would now click off, assuming this was not a relevant product for me.

You have a use case section and a SaaS button, so I looked at this.

The text here does not resonate with me; I care about converting users to paid and preventing them from churning. I don't care so much about "Engage your users", which seems fluffy and doesn't talk to me.

At first thanks, I will rework my copy.

Yes, my product targets Ecom and Saas, I built Pulsly at first as a simple changelog.

As I don't have a blog or decided Twitter account, it is helpful for me.

I can write pretty much anything like bug fix, new features, and all my users knows what going on.

Honest opinion. As an ex-CEO of a SaaS startup, I wouldn't use it. Reason? I did not understand the value proposition. Yes, it says I will increase sales, but I see it as a widget that is not extremely exciting. Perhaps my users don't want more notifications in their busy lives? That's what's going through my mind first seeing this.

Would be nice to hear from you directly what problems this would solve for my SaaS business and some examples of using it.

Sell the end result not the product/features.

    Pros:

    • Use cases pages (great for SEO and client targeting)
    • Good, simple website for an MVP
    • It actually works :) (not just a landing page)

    Cons:

    • I would add about you page, makes it more personal and trustworthy
    • No customer stories or testimonials (social proof)
    • Short video of some great examples would be great and give a better feel

Curious to know how you intend to get it out there and get e.g. 1000 registrations?

And congrats on PH launch. I know it is not easy to get those votes!

    1. 1

      Thanks for your honest opinion,

In-app announcements for Saas already exist (AnnounceKit, Olvy, launchNotes) they have an extensive list of features and also a higher pricing.

My goal is to provide a simple in-app announcement / changelog for small Saas
      => simpler and cheaper.

As I said it's an MVP, Later I will add NPS and comment section below the post to get instant feedback from users .

(I will also rework my copy)

  12. 1

There is one important aspect I see, the overall design looks smooth and clean, however at first I had the impression it was still loading. It's too similar to the loading placeholders of web apps

    1. 1

Are you talking about the landing page?

  13. 1

What level of roasting do you prefer?

    1. 1

Your honest opinion as a potential user.

      1. 1

I want to focus on the core problem that your product solves and the value it creates. Not for your potential customers, but for their customers.

As a customer of any SaaS, I don't imagine in what context I need to know about the changelog on a SaaS website.

        1. If I am just interested in what the company is doing, I want to subscribe for updates that will be sent to my email, and I can read them in a convenient interface for me.

        2. If I've already been a customer of this SaaS, I would also want to check for updates via email or the SaaS interface, but not on the website.

Maybe I don't know the specific customer context where this way to get updates about a product is relevant.

From my point of view (just from the landing page), the colors look good. They are actually attractive. It is minimalist, maybe even too minimalistic.

As a person who doesn't know anything about a product and just clicked on a link, I don't get enough information from the visuals. Let me explain:
If I was a person who wanted a house, which I wanted just to buy and live in, you show me a plan of the building.
I feel a lack of real-life examples that can show the use of your product better.

Also, as an idea, you can think of a demo-video, which shows the usage of your product.

But in general, I like it!

    1. 2

Ok, thanks for the feedback, btw there are 3 use case pages with more concrete examples.

      Have a great day
