Roast my updated Landing Page

I launched the initial version of this application last week (see attached image) and got some feedback from some YouTubers, which was in short:

  • Who are you and why is my data safe with you?
  • Where are your terms of service?

Essentially a lack of trust. Which surprised me since all the application does is backup PUBLIC videos.

Anyway, I set out to fix those issues and increase the trustworthiness.

Here is the updated application https://tubesafe.tv

Do you think it looks more trustworthy now? Any other improvements I could make?

    Hi Richard,

Like Josh said before a lot of the YouTubers I have worked with as their closed captioner fall in one of two camps: either they have a local + offsite for backing up and for internal teams to work with or they’re fine if their old content falls off the web as they think their content older than X months isn’t worth worrying about.

Now, given the terms of service change that happened yesterday and goes into effect soon, you’ve got a bit of a different angle you can play here which is that YouTube appears to be preparing to take much swifter action in removing content that involves harassment of any kind. Not sure there’s a burning need to pay for a solution here either but definitely a new thing that has many of them concerned so could be a pitch point.

The place that seems much more ripe for this kind of backup and storage is the gaming live-streaming platforms like Twitch, which removes archived streams after 60 days. More data to store since 4 hours streams are a lot larger than 7-12 minute videos so there’s larger costs but potentially useful for those in the partner program and have more than 1000 subs. Definitely a balancing act when approaching these folks but it may be worth it to eat the storage cost on a mid-level partner in exchange for promotion on stream, especially if they’re in an active clan on the platform. Could be especially useful to them if their moderators could have access to those backups in order to do something creative. Definitely expanding way past the request here but hopefully it helps.

Thanks @kadedworkin. I did assume originally most serious YouTubers would keep a local backup. But I did see a handful of large channels get terminated and then complain they actually lost all their content, maybe that is a tiny percentage who take that risk.

I was attempting to hint at the rise of censorship on the YouTube platform by adding the "News" section, although that may be insufficient I can't think of a better way sending that message.

Twitch sounds like a good idea, how would you go about finding the right streamers test it out with? (pick and stream topic some streamers with >1k subs and message them?)

This channel I found seems to have archive videos over 1 year old

That channel very likely has some extra affiliation with Twitch since that channel has 3.4 million followers and is almost certainly in the top 1% of all accounts in follower count on the platform. I checked more than a dozen other channels of mid-tier partners (read 4x/week+ and 3+ hours streamed per stream) and every one of those has exactly 60 days of archived streams.

In regards to finding the right Twitch streamers, that's one where I'd probably start by doing some on the keyboard research looking at top games based on popularity on the platform and then streamers with between 50-300 concurrent viewers and pull that data at various times of the day.

Build a list of their social media accounts and start the watching game (twitter lists are fantastic for this). It's not fun to scroll through a twitter or IG just looking for an opportunity to pitch your service so be social on social media and start to be in their stream and interact with them as a person and not an acquisition target (don't be thirsty).

If you see someone actually talking about frustrations on the platform, that's an open door to start a conversation about the platform in general which may lead to pain points they're experiencing which could convert them into customers and if all goes your way you find a replicable pain point and customer demo/psychographic that you can target more effectively.

I make YouTube videos. I don't see a need for this service. I keep a backup of all my videos already on a hard drive.

Have you talked to YouTubers? What % of them have their videos already backed up? What % want that? It is trust, or education? Good luck!
