Hey Adam, first of all congratulations on building Kahana!

You can find a detailed feedback here - https://app.ruttl.com/share/j427quOlnTHHs21kOIzY?page=v9IG39gV5iPGIrqXcbfA

    Hope it helps!

    Hello!

Your site looks great – the green/gray is a nice change from the anonymous-white-sites-with-tiny-accent-colors trend! I love the look of the platform screengrabs, really attractive and clear.

A few queries around the writing:

    1. Some of the titles could do with an edit. They’re a little wordy without extra value.

Like, A Platform Built by Creators for Creators – It’s a platform, sure. You probably want the SEO value there. But obviously it’s built. So you arguably don’t need that. E.g. A Platform: By Creators, for Creators. (Or, Kahana: by creators, for creators).

Later, you have Kahana is Created by Creators for Creators. Just repeating the same thing. And I’m not sure the mad use of Created/Creators/Creators is the visual / reading win you want it to be. :)

    1. Some of the subs could do with an edit. Again, wordy without extra value, and they don’t seem clear enough.

E.g. It’s a lonely world for creators – creators work too long and hard without seeing results. That’s why we created Kahana.

I would suggest going all the way to make your case.

E.g. Creators work long and hard – without results, it seems pointless. That’s why we created Kahana.

    1. Pain point: Your point could be made more efficiently. And it needs to move on faster to a more useful title than the Created by creators for creators one.

The writing syntax is off, feels disconnected:

    Creator economy exists. 200M creators.
    Space. New section.
Bunch of stats that prove the creator economy is a myth.
    Space. New section.
    Created by creators for creators
    So what?

But brought together, you could have a clearer flow:

First part - Creator economy exists. 200M creators, globally. But almost impossible to make money quickly. (Stats for proof and they should be referenced).

Second part - Enter: Kahana. Makes it easier. Keeps it organised. Sucks in the money. All in one space. Flexible, too.

First part of the flow belongs together IMO. Too much real estate being taken up by the pain, and the image is a downer too.

Second part needs to shove the benefits back in the reader’s face. The recommendation is nice, but the created by creators etc title currently less useful than it could be.

I love what you’re doing though. Considering signing up to the waitlist!

Thanks so much for your wonderful feedback - I really appreciate the full break down and thoroughness of the deconstruction!

Definitely will implement these changes ASAP - Much more compelling.

Honestly, I’m really moved by the new and more powerful narrative you’ve laid out. Just reading it really makes me feel happy in that you resonate with the essence of what we’re doing!

If you’re on the fence, I’ll just flat out say it: we’d love to have you, it would be an honor if you’d join Kahana!

We are a growing community of creators and experts that would really love to gain access to the expertise you could share. You’re excellent at your craft and I feel like there’s a strong need for a hub on copywriting / best practices you could make! Not all of us are great writers but we need to incorporate these things into our products and services constantly. It would help so much 😅

If you’re open to it, I can give you access and would love to have the opportunity to collab to help build the hub, get you featured on our site and newsletter (and help you monetize quickly of course!)

In any case, thank you so much!! I really appreciate all your help! and I really do hope you join!

Hi Adam, glad it's been useful! I'm certainly interested in having a poke about on Kahana to assess if it would be useful for what I do. What do you need from me to get me access please?

Happy to offer you a free content report in return for being able to use it as a sample on WordsOnWebsites - once you've gone as far as you can with the copy on your landing page. You can contact me via https://wordsonwebsites.co.uk/contact/

        1. 1

Hurray! Thanks for sharing this, I'll send you a note with the details through your contact link

Hey Adam, your website looks good, it's clean and conveys the message just right.

I have 2 quick suggestions for you.

    1. On the navigation, you have the logo and links aligned to the left, and there's a lot of space on the right side. So it will be great if you can either align the links on the right or the logo can be on the left. This would space out the navigation and utilize the space. Or else you can keep it as is and add some CTA on the right side of the nav to balance it out.

    2. In the second section, you have added screenshots of the platform, it is a good thing to showcase but I think it feels overwhelming as the screenshot has lots of stuff in it. My suggestion would be to either show a simplified version of the dashboard that focuses on the feature you are talking about, or else a less detailed one with fewer data to make it look much cleaner.

    I hope this helps.

    All the best!

Hey Anant! Thanks so much for sharing this feedback - I really appreciate your advice and perspective. I definitely agree with what you're saying about everything, and I'll hustle to include these updates in the next push!! 🙏

      1. 1

        Glad to help :)

Kudos on your product! The website appears fantastic, and despite not being your target demographic, everything is easily understood. I've got a few recommendations regarding the text and pricing:

    Take a look here - https://visualdebug.com/show/kahana.co

Thank you so, so much for your recommendations! I immediately think they lift up the page and make it clearer! Adding to JIRA :)

  5. 2

So this is Udemy but for docs-courses instead of video-courses?

    1. 1

Also, unclear what a hub is.

      1. 1

This is a wonderful question! I definitely feel like we need to do a better job of explaining these differences. Here is an article I wrote about Kahana vs Udemy: https://blog.kahana.co/kahana-vs-udemy/

I would really appreciate it if you could check that out when you have a chance and let me know if you have more questions or potential advice to improve the way we're explaining both the hub and Kahana vs Udemy!

The navigation off to the left side feels a little weird to me. Maybe something like in this screenshot: https://www.loom.com/i/99c5cc6dd62540729edfc54b140064f9

    1. 1

Thanks for bringing this up - that's so strange! I hadn't ever noticed that before in my testing. If you don't mind me asking, what browser/device are you using?

      1. 1

        I'm on Safari 15.5 & Mac OS Monterey 12.4

        1. 1

Okay sweet. Thanks for letting me know this is super helpful. I'll go trouble shoot and fix it. I got some other feedback that it might make sense to center the tabs

  7. 1

Hey, I think overall it looks very good and clearly conveys what you do. I'm not a massive fan of the emojis though personally.

  8. 1

    Great work!
Free tier also offers unlimited seats? (With less features)

    1. 1

Free is limited by the amount of storage and # of hubs you can create (2). But you can invite / collaborate with unlimited people in a hub you create.

For example, this is a hub I created on my own free plan that has a bunch of collaborators in it: https://app.kahana.co/hub/wQGSB4z4lsjEnlLZyLVk

However, where seats come into play is more for "teams" and "enterprise" type accounts where the owner of the account would want control over the hubs created by their colleagues. For example, a consulting firm partner provisions seats to a manager and analysts to create hubs and collaborate, but then the manager leaves the company: the partner would want to be able to roll that person's seat to the new manager!

Does that make sense? Sorry for the long-winded explanation!

      1. 1

        That is a great idea @adam_kershner !

Tell me one thing that your system will do well that is not covered by others?
        Ex.: Udemy, Medium, DIY etc.

One thing I see in my area of interest would be to dynamically sell trainings based on feedbacks or ratings.
That would remove work from managers and better engage teams.

        1. 1

Yay! I agree haha - im really pumped for revenue sharing.

I think that currently, what our system covers that others do not is collaboration - being able to work on a hub at the speed of a Google Doc (real-time) is not offered by other creator economy platforms that also allow for monetization. If you're curious about how we fit into other systems right now, i'd love it if you checked out this (behemoth) blog post I wrote and let me know your thoughts: https://blog.kahana.co/creator-platforms/

As for the future, we are interested in continued innovation and exploring tactful gamification as a differentiator, allowing creators to make gamified, milestone-based experiences to improve learning outcomes for their viewers (e.g. earning a custom Guru badge for reading all the content in a Spirituality & Religion hub and having it appear on your profile)

That idea sounds very cool! We may be thinking about the same thing, actually, but what do you mean by dynamically selling trainings based on feedback?

      2. 1

Thank you for clarifying @adam_kershner !
I don’t know if that makes sense to specify the information in the features breakdown (What is included section)

        1. 1

Thank YOU for even checking it out and helping me! This has been really instructive. For now, I feel like I can just add it to the FAQ section below the pricing chart if that would work?

          1. 1

I would recommend the same approach as Atlassian @adam_kershner

            Example: https://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/pricing

Your idea regarding FAQ can be also combined.

I would also to put a max of users for free tier to prevent any abuse of your system.

            1. 1

This is super helpful!! Thanks for sending this over. I'll see what we can do to create this type of table like Atlassian.

Genuine question - do you know what type of abuse could result from having unlimited users?

              1. 2

The kind of abuse / extra cost that I can foresee it so support a large team/organization as free tier without getting a direct benefits ($$$)

                1. 1

This is a really good point! I will definitely think about that. We definitely also want to serve creators and communities (allow them to create hubs and monetize on the free plan). I was thinking we would take inspiration from GitHub's business model.

Thanks for helping us look ahead!

                  1. 1

Happy to hear that it was helpful @adam_kershner 🙂

FYI - I have came across this approach regarding community coming from ConvertKit: https://convertkit.com/features/creator-network?utm_content=navigation&utm_source=convertkit&utm_medium=convertkit&utm_campaign=cn-waitlist

                    1. 2

@adam_kershner since you was referring to community. Instead of having your community fighting for revenue. Maybe you can différence yourself from other competitor by allowing to co-create, share value/revenue.

                      That is my takeaway 🙂

                    2. 1

Yes!! This is a wonderful idea! Honestly, we're actually doing this and revenue sharing is on our product roadmap.

So you and I could collaborate and build a hub together and split it automatically by taking the percentages we agree on!

For example, we could integrate with something like Stir: https://www.usestir.com/

                    3. 1

Thanks for sharing this! It's really helpful! If you don't mind me asking, what are your takeaways from it?
