Hi 👋🏼
we are working on Paperless.io and will launch next month 🎉
Next week we will start our beta testing phase and try to get Paperless.io closer to the customer needs.
What ist Paperless.io:
With Paperless, documents can be electronically signed and completed anytime, anywhere. Our Goal ist to abandon expensive paper processes, improve productivity and achieve a faster ROI for companies and teams.
We still want to optimize our website - means I need your help to make it possible!
Anything you have to say about the website, let me know. Questions? Write it to me.
I'm super happy to do the same for you! Just write me your page, idea or whatever in the comments.
Congrats first of all on making paperless.io a thing! ok.. so:
first impression; clean design with a confident use of whitespace. I like the restrained use of blue to unify the page elements and draw my eye to the main copy. Feels legit.
second impression: the copy needs to be refined. Both the headline and the secondary copy. "The All-in-One platform for agreement management" feels either too 'clever' or too vague. Agreement management doesn't mean anything to me - I would assume you've either tested this messaging on your audience or its an industry term that strikes an immediate chord with your target audience.
Saying "all in one platform" as a value proposition creates a few expectations. First, that this is different to other products because it 'bundles' several other tools that do not do 'all in one'. Secondly, I now expect it to be a platform and not just a (non-platform) product. Meaning - it should connect at least two distinct groups of users together and / or the platform creates revenue opportunities for an ecosystem of 3rd party vendors.
"book a demo" creates the expectation of the product being too complicated for me to trial myself, or there's a longer sales cycle involved.. or worse, it will be a sales call. Either way, I am now wondering why i need hand-holding to decide if i want the product or not.
Expectations set.. let's scroll down and explore:
Animation:
Am I missing the point already - is this about signing an actual document or creating an online form that can be "signed"?
Ok, i want to take a break from your site and go look at DocuSign. I just remembered signing something via DocuSign a few months ago. Seems like a competitor.. let's look at them.. https://www.docusign.co.uk/
Header: "Keep your business moving forward"
Strap: "Get started with eSignature"
Product highlight: "Agreement Cloud. Connect and automate your entire agreement process"
Assuming they are the incumbent here, their copy is tight compared to yours. Not unexpected, they probably have a team of people pouring over every word. However, we can learn a lot from their efforts and you can use it to improve your own copy.
"Agreement cloud" is an industry keyword + key technology. Nice and simple. It tells me it is not on premise and it's just vague enough - no big claims here about being everything and a platform.
"Connect" and "automate" tells me that the results of their own customer research revealed that business 'agreement' workflows are siloed, disconnected, and manual. DocuSign understands that telling me the benefits and advantages is better than selling me on the features.
Ok.. let's go back to Paperless.io.
The animations on Paperless.io are nice and feel "friendly" compared to the harshly corporate video on DocuSign's website.
"Transform existing files into interactive... etc"
Okay.. i've reached a new headline and pitch:
headline: "Better Document Lifecycles"
strap: "Save time and reduce errors by automating the entire document workflow."
Wait.. this is a much better head and strap that you have ATF (above the fold) at the moment.
Can I suggest that you could refine this headline by signposting what is 'better' more clearly.. i mean, better than what customers have currently (meaning they are not using a competitors product) or are you saying its better than using DocuSign or another product?
For example, if long lifecycles are the problem say "Shorter Agreement Lifecycles". If its a complexity issue say "Simpler Document Lifecycles". Better has to be better than something. Spell it out.
Clean up the strap - trim it and make it personal: its not "the entire" it should be "your entire". Suggestion:
"Save time, reduce errors. Automate your entire document workflow. "
Or "your entire company's document workflow". Depending on if your targeting a couple of people in a legal department or to C-level execs in charge of legal, HR, procurement etc (or the people doing all that themselves in smaller companies) who are aware that delays in signing documents is delaying payments and work.
You keep putting the "builder" up front. I am expecting (with my Product Manager hat on) that this is because its the biggest pain point, not because its the thing that you are most proud of building (or the thing that you put the most effort into without testing the market first).
Ok... the "Collaborative by design" bit
"Whether your teams are colocated, distributed, or fully remote, Paperless provides an engaging, intuitive, in-person collaboration experience with multiple options for real-time or asynchronous teamwork on all Paperless documents."
ouch. Okay. What? Well.. you don't need 'engaging' and 'intuitive'. Together they make the sentence harder to skim or actively read. I would cut 'engaging' out. It should go without saying and it fell like it adds anything.
So.. this paragraph is actually one sentence. ONE. But it feels like a lot to take it. Here's a quick stab at what I might have responded to better myself as a user:
"Collaborating in real-time with Paperless is intuitive. Using Google Docs or MicroSoft 365 ? It works the same - make adjustments together live , or work on it at different times. No version control, no email attachments."
It's a slightly different voice and tone to your current copy, but you get the drift hopefully. I'm trying to make it easier to read and understand, even if its actually longer than your original copy.
Why isn't collaboration mentioned earlier?!?!
Okay.. so now I'm reading about some value propositions that feel like they would speak to the "jobs to be done" of your customer base. This feels more compelling than most of the content above it so far!!!!
"All documents are cryptographically signed, locked and protected from modifications and come with court-admissible audit trails."
Bloody hell. That's a big deal. Why oh why was this not mentioned in the animation earlier!!! Crypto-signed! Court-admissible audit trails! How did i have to scroll this far to find that out?!?!?!
"Experience the power of paperless documents"
Your eSignature technology sounds like a big deal. Have you thought about giving it a marketable name to different it from your competitors?
Overall, the design - great. Good choices of colour, spacing, typography. Feels very professional. Your problem here (in my humble opinion) is the devil that's in the details.
Take a look at something like Apple's Mac Mini web page (https://www.apple.com/uk/mac-mini/). It's not the front page so they can afford to put more copy at the top.. but that copy (e.g. "The Apple M1 chip takes our most versatile, do-it-all desktop...") is a solid sales pitch to buy these machines. Why... well as they tell us:
For you this might translate to:
Point is this: the M1 chip is the big sell here because the Mac Mini is half the price of a Macbook Pro with the same chip. It's the first card on the page.
The next 3/4 cards showcase one feature each.
Then we move to 2 cards per "page" (I'm looking at it on a desktop) for the less product-defining features. After that.. more technical detail.
On the Paperless.io website it doesn't feel like a unified journey through the product. It feels like I am moving from some initially vague features into more details about either the same or some new features. What are the big themes here? The security.. the speed.. the collaboration.. the fact its all in one.. or a platform..
I hope something here helps you.
Hi Paul
Your feedback or rather analysis is incredible! Thank you for all the information and especially the depth / details. Many of the points we have not yet considered from this perspective.
We make ourselves today directly to the work! May I give you an update when we have implemented it?
Hi @Garreis_Jonathan, I'm glad something in their is useful to you :)
I'd love to follow your progress. Please do let me know how you get on!
- "Agreement management" has very specific connotations. You also use "document management". This can be confusing.
- I can't quite form a positioning/overall picture of your product. I get lost in all the features. What are the 1 or 2 points you want the user to walk away with? I would look for ways to tie it all together.
I would love your feedback on Re:Schedule : https://www.reschedule.app
Thanks for that! We will work on tie it all together.
Is it important for you to have the differentiation on our landing page or on a other page?
Feedback Re:Schedule
First impression: realy clean website with great videos, pictures, text and CTA's.
I was not clear at the beginning if it is another calendar app or plug in.
For me the "Manage your workflow" would not be as important as the "Say hello to productive meetings". Most managers prepare their meetings with an agenda and have rather the problem of a non-productive meeting.
The enumeration of the old workflows is definitve smart! This allowed me to clearly notice the benefit of Re:Schedule.
I didn't understand the "Invite your team ..." picture. What is the message behind it?
The app experience are classic and rather standard for me. Do they really need a mention here?
Maybe here would still be the possibility to mention the integration mögliochkeiten. Is there only Google or also other calendars like OutLook?
I would focus even more on the experience for the team than on the Manger level. Especially current meetings are annoying and exhausting for many. Now a way to make meetings more enjoyable and productive is a welcome solution.
I would think about incorporating the differentation very early in the messaging. A significant portion of your users won't scroll down much.
My first question when I arrived at the page was "How is this different from Docusign?" You can use this to your advantage - Docusign defines a category for you. By using similar terminology, you can help the user quickly get what your prodcut does. Then use differntiation to explain why they would use you instead of others.
One other challenge is you will need to build trust. How can I be sure that my cirtical agreements are safe and always retrievable?
Thanks for the feedback on Re:Schedule! I get your point about "Inivite your team...". I have been looking to include more videos of the UX like you did. What did you use to create the videos?
How we position ourselves to others is good advice.
I'll talk to our designer about how the videos were developed and get back to you.
An interesting exmaple of positioning in your space : https://techcrunch.com/2021/03/31/leeway-is-a-contract-workflow-service-for-your-legal-team/
Impressive one! Paperless.io is one of the best landing pages I've seen because I was able to catch your value prop in few seconds of scrolling. the animation for "Transform existing files to interactive Paperless documents" could be located in the hero section to be more appearing instead of just having text "The All-in-One platform for agreement management."
I want my landing page Tappy to be toasted. Tappy is an audio-first workspace, initially designed for :
1: Instant problem solving
2: Creative brainstorming
3: Social talk
Thank you!
Hi @sallybak. I have a personal interest in spatial and audio-focused co-working solutions.
If you don't mind, I'd like to offer a bit of quick feedback in addition to Jonathan's solid points.
To me, Tappy speaks to the basic human need of connection. A major value proposition of the product would seem to be in removing the friction of setting up meetings - I can "quick chat" with a colleague. Just like walking over to them in the office.
is there a good research study or some (reputable) statistics you could find and use on your site to highlight to people the problem
is the product intended to replace or integrate with Slack, Teams ultimately? Given that Slack is free, this may be your main competitor and may need you to think carefully about your early strategic moves (what features you build and what you don't, and when).
Your customer quotes could do with some context. Who are these people; could you say "Dinnie D - Engineer at a 21 person startup" to help give prospective users a sense of "oh, that's the same size as our startup".
The copy text could be smoothed out a bit. This is highly highly subjective feedback, so forgive me here. "Be Present, Hear Each Other" falls flat for me. I think you could find something more clear and punchy. The tagline i like better:
"Stay connected with your remote teams,
but talk only when it is needed."
However, I'd recommend editing it right down to find the essence of the message and then start adding and changing one or two words back in again if needed. For example,
"Connected Teams Need to Talk"
"Stay connected. Talk when needed"
"Your remote team stays connected"
"Your remote team, connected. One click to talk"
(not great examples, but the method has helped me in the past)
Why is audio-only better? Can you provide any findings from research? There must be an HBR article for instance?
Can the product integrate with Miro, or does it have it's own white-boarding features?
Keep your market research up to date. There are other products trying to solve the same issue as you. I think you have something unique here, just the look and feel - is has a charming quality to it. It's appealing.
It does feel like small refinements to the messaging and positioning of the product would make all the difference though.
Good luck, I will be following Tappy's progress!
I spent quite a time going over every single line of your thoughts and feedback. and come out with a couple of action plans for what we can do right away and the ones in long term. Thank you so much for your time and support for the community. You are creating so much value here. btw I love the way you deliver messages whether it is good news or bad news. I truly respect and appreciate that!
You're welcome @sallybak. I enjoy this community a lot and am happier to hear I am helping others in their journeys in some small way.
I just wanted to draw your attention to the reply below from @JoeSorocin - he highlights Julian Shapiro's work on Landing pages and how to write good copy. Shaprio explains it so much better than I have! so I recommend checking those links out too :)
Only by the header I did not know what it was about. The website seemed empty to me overall.
The CTA are top. I would have liked to know if it is a separate program, if so on which systems it is available and also the topic of data protection came directly into my head here. Will my employees be permanently bugged?
Do you have pictures to your ratings or company names? That could increase the trust. Currently they are only reviews but are they real?
Yeah, great point on CTA. your feedback/questions are super helpful. Our team went over every single detail and learn so much from it. we come up with a couple of action plans like CTA with supported OSs that we gonna apply right away! appreciate your work and good luck with your product!
This is honestly one of the best landing pages I've seen :) Absolutely love the animated product demo right up front, nice load time too. It may be worth it to elaborate on what "Get early access" means. What does giving you my email mean? Will I get access today? Are you just going to send me updates?
Love the idea @Garreis_Jonathan! Here are my two cents:
P.S. The "company" section needs an "About us" sub page. Who are you / your cofounders? The "follow us on linkedin" requires an extra click and "ain't nobody got time for that" ;)
P.S.#2 The "about us" page can be combined with a little backstory. Why did you create Paperless? What (concrete) problems/use cases does it solve for you? What's your "mission statement"? This could come at a later point and is certainly not required upon launch but it would give off a heightened sense of professionalism -> you're not creating just a random web app but an actual company. What I'm saying is, people resonate with stories and "paperless", to me, is missing one.
Good luck!
Thank you for introducing me to Julian Shapiro! Such a great resource :)
Thanks @JoeSorocin!
We will adapt the mobile version and the titles definitely. Thanks for the tips where we can get the same ideas for better ones.
We are building our About Page right now! Therefore it is good to hear what we must not forget.
May I show you this once we are done with it?
With regards to the being no voiceover for the videos, I used https://wellsaidlabs.com/ to do AI voiceovers for my landing page videos, and was pretty amazed by how realistic they are.
You literally just type what you want them to say, push a button, and get the audio instantly. You can tweak their pronunciation with some simple punctuation options as well.
There are a few other similar providers out there, so could be worth a look if you wanted something quick and easy. I managed to squeeze all mine into the free tier.
You can see the results at: https://tagly.app/
Hey @Garreis_Jonathan,
Good landing page, clean design ... but :
✅ I saw what the product design, I understand it but I did find the actual value proposition. Sometimes is better to highlight some pain point your target may experience
✅ the landing page is a bit long in my opinion.
✅ I didn’t find something related to the pricing.
✅ images and gif on the website are shaking on scroll
I’ll appreciate your feedback too : https://welti.io
Thanks!
Great website!
Thanks 🙏 for the feedback.
Yes we already exist but we plan to launch on April 9, 2021. What’s would recommend to make this one clear ? Thanks again
Maybe you can put in your header that you are a "team and work management software"?
Hi Garreis,
Here are my first impressions:
If you want to give feedback on my landing page, check out https://www.usertrack.net
Also DM me on Twitter if you want to try userTrack for your landing page, it can help you improve the design. I can provide you with a discount, as a fellow IH.
Thank you for the detailed feedback!
Your Landinpage is great! Replace Google ... explains directly what it's all about and what to expect.
The direct demo button is perfect! We have to integrate that too.
The whole website is kept minimal and super understandable.
From your headlines I understand what you mean by the missing explanations.
Super trust area with the many customer reviews - although the stars do not come across real. Which rating tool was used to create them?
Will look at your solution for us!
Reviews are a tricky one. userTrack was sold on CodeCanyon before, and there customers could leave reviews, that's where all the reviews and rating numbers come from. Unfortunately once I removed the product from CodeCanyon the reviews are no longer public, so the only way I could provide proof is maybe through some screenshots.
I am not sure if there's a better way to show/describe that customers are really happy with the product, many of them sending some really kind emails. Maybe I could ask them review userTrack on some public website like G2 or Capterra, or TrustPilot? Not sure what the best platform would be.
I think this is a great idea! Speaks definitive for your product and the rating platforms could bring you even more traffic.
I actually tried signing up on TrustPilot but they require your company to have at least 10 employees on LinkedIn... Not indie-hacker friendly :(
Hey Garries,
Design is fantastic and like everyone else, love the videos!
I think the header is a bit general and should do more to speak to/empathise with the user pain point. It does describe what the product is, but I think it should focus more on what Paperless gives the user i.e. can you quantify a productivity improvement or improvement in customer experience? I guess with something like this you can talk about getting rid of back and forth emailing/word version control etc, think of the worst way it is currently done and then frame Paperless as the antidote to it.
If you have time would love to hear what you think on https://www.supersimplesignup.com (not quite up to your design levels I'll admit!)
Mike
Thank you for the compliment! I looked at your site and find it great! Just the simplicity - combined with the large font and eye-catching colors.
Love the CTA text "*For free, did we mention that?"
Short and meaningful! Still need to work on that!
I'm not going to repeat what others have said, but honestly, the landing page is too long.
I got the point of the product after watching the graphical slide then reading the other panel, I phased out the rest of the information from my mind.
You got to the point quickly, the next talking point should be security and collaboration and you either sold the person on your product or you did not. It's that simple.
Thanks! Good Point
Hey Garreis,
the website looks really nice and you can quickly understand what the product is about. I have used a few times other similar services like hellosign.com, so as a client, if I had to decide which service to use, a comparative would help.
PS.: please, write me an email or tweet, I can't dm you. I'd like to propose you something.
Send you a DM
Hey Garreis!
my review is design related.
You will find it here:
this is my site if you are up to:
Thanks for the feedback on our design!
Your landingpage looks outstanding. Great job on that.
You are very welcome!
And thank you too 😀
Bro, the videos are so good. So fucking good.
I am so impressed by them. Not only are they easy to consume but it actually shows you in the most simple way what and how you saas works.
What did you use to make them? Or did you hire someone? :)
Thanks! I will ask my colleague and come back to you
Design-wise the website is very nice, looks the part!
The hero text on the landing page is very vague:
This doesn’t really explain anything to someone first visiting the page.
Again doesn’t really explain what the product does to the uninitiated (what is agreement management?).
Finally we begin to understand what the product does, this information should be more prominent.
Remember, sell the solution not the features.
E.g.: “Create, distribute, and manage all your digital agreements with just a few clicks”, “Save hours of time by managing all your legal documents in one simple platform”. Something along those lines should be the first thing the user sees.
Thanks! We will work on hero text. Good that you remind us! Has probably gone down a bit. But we will now implement directly.
Congratualtions Garreis!
I love your ideas and would love to participate in the testing round if needed as I'm doing remote works and have a lot of documents to sign on a daily basis.
The UX is brilliant and easy to understand https://paperless.io/#c1649 (not sure about the c1649 means?)
A quick question: is your product support different languages? What're your thoughts on adding the session of FAQs to save time for customer queries?
----
I'm an independent content creator who has this website to introduce who I am and previous works I've been done https://www.camelliayang.com/. I'd love to seek advice on my blog page since I write in English and Chinese. What's your UX and any suggestions? https://www.camelliayang.com/blog Thanks a lot and all the best!
Thanks for feedback @camelliayang
We would be happy if you were one of the first testers of Paperless. Can you send me your mail? Then I will invite you as soon as we are ready.
A FAQ's page will definitely come and we are currently preparing it.
The pictures & videos are very beautiful. However, the color combination are part something hard.
Maybe you could include in the header why one should follow your Journey.
Thank you for your feedback! My email is ymedianz@gmail.com
Can't wait to test it out and all the best!
Hi Garreis 👋,
First of all congrats, I liked your page a lot. Looks very legit. Here are my 2 cents:
---
As for myself, I've been busy building Adflow. Feel free to check out my landing page and full product as well (it's 100% free – not just the trial). I'm starting my grill ready for some roasting 🔥.
I wanted to grill Adflow but your website is really strong! The demo directly in the header is top.
I was only confused that the animations next to Startups, Marketers and Agencies did not work or are simply not clickable. Thought that I am now brought to the Informatonen for Startups.
Are there more positive customer feedbakcs than a story?
Unfortunately I can not say more otherwise! Or is that good after all? Really a top seite and your FAQ's we will take as inspiration.
Thanks for the positive vibes 😃. The animations were originally meant to be just for fun, but we've heard this feedback from a couple of times already, so I guess they may be detracting from the experience after all . We'll probably disable them for now.
We are also working on gathering more user feedback to showcase customers' experience with Adflow (if you're using the product – it's free! – and have something useful to others to say just reach out!)
Good Luck! Keep me updated
Love that interactive demo on adflow.ai 😍
Thanks 🚀
Context: I’m on mobile Safari, iPhone 12 Mini. No experience with signing digital documents.
Here we go:
The initial forced(?) scroll is very awkward.
I like the demo video, it seems to make perfectly clear how the service works.
I don’t know what “agreement management” means.
“For more productivity and a better customer experience.” seems that would be true for any service?
I like the logo. Less Paper. Nice. But it does look familiar, can’t put my finger on it, maybe it’s the color scheme but very much makes it feel like a Google service?
Compression on the collaborative image is a bit much. Go PNG?
I love the look and feel but the page lacks identity? It’s a bit forgettable.
—
You can find the product page for my Image Editor SDK below, but honestly focus on your product first, and only roast mine if you have time to spare :)
https://pqina.nl/doka/
I wanted to grill pqina.nl but your landingpage is great! The website is super structured and just fun!
The direct demo with the "hands on" mentality is something we now also want to have on our website.
I can't say anything bad about Officiel! Sorry.
When we have improved our site, may I get back to you?
Thanks! I think if you have the option to offer a live demo, then should def go for it. Let me know when you've improved the site!
Will do!
Please don't hijack the native scroll! Checking from Chrome on Mac and my very first impression was "Whoa! So slow!" (You can still do cool animations, just let me scroll at my own pace).
Do you really do booked demos? Feels so corporate and ancient. Isn't your app supposed to be cool and easy to use? I'd ditch that.
Given what you do, I'd try to get a bit creative with early access thingy and convert visitors into users right away. For example, you could say "We're happy to give early access to anyone who signs an NDA". Of course, signing NDAs is boring but that's the point. You give them an NDA that is not boring, you have already signed on your end, and I can get it done in seconds (if I can really sign it in seconds, that is). It could be a minimized version of your actual product, no need for sign up and other irrelevant stuff.
Do you have pre-made templates? I didn't find any information on this. It's cool that I can convert existing documents, but what if I have none? If you do have templates, I'd mention it on the landing page. If you don't, consider having a few basic ones at least.
Overall, looks solid 👏
PS - I don't have a landing page for you to roast, but I recently posted my very first product here on IH and feel free to burn it to the ground.
Thanks for taking the time! We need to work on those points.
I just used your product! I had only one question: why or when do I use the product?
Brilliant question! 😁 In 5 years, I had only a handful of cases where I found it genuinely useful:
Initially my hope was that people would figure out their own use cases, but very few did, so honestly I just keep it up because it's my 1st public 'product' (public as if in online, I don't think building in public was a thing in 2015).
Great story behind it!
honestly, it's pretty.
... "more than electronic signatures" sounds cool but doesn't tell me anything. agreement platform also suffers from the same thing.
Good to know! We will work on it.
hey @Garreis_Jonathan, you still offering this?
Sure!
ok great. My site for roasting is www.earlyventure.report.
With your site...
will visitors know what "intelligent documents" is? sounds great and fancy but it is not a common term. so I guess on my first visit the landing page doesn't quite sell exactly what the service is
it is "more than signatures" but then you say "lets you create, sign, and manage" but doesn't imply much else
what is the USP? because I guess it looks very similar to other esignature sites I've seen and used. why would I use you? I guess you need to get this across a bit more?
I am guessing your sales pipeline will ensure visitors are already warmed up to what this is going to be
no price or contact or about pages
very tidy and clean UI, can't fault that look although it is one that is quite common now - I guess the UI look of 2020/2021
but I do like the main top moving image which shows me quite well what it is
Thank you for your feedback!
A good and simple header! What you do is immediately obvious. However, I was wondering what the newsletter looks like that the investors get? Currently I don't really have a sense of the product.
The pictures on your website don't say anything. They don't manage to support the message of your texts.
Why and how exactly does your 25 years of experience help the product? Is coaching or personal support included with the newsletter? Again, tell us why this makes your newsletter special or what aspect of the newsletter makes it special for investors.
All ratings suggest that a personal consultation is included in the package. From here on I am not sure if it is a newsletter or a consultation.
I hope I could help you with the feedback.
thank you! really appreciate the feedback and will tweak wording as I go to make clear that it is a newsletter. having said that, it is partly a mechanism to bring new leads towards my other services at www.interim-cofounder.com ;-)
the report and the parts where I interview 10 founders each week and analyse what is going on and compile into my thoughts - that is all based on my 25 years. So hopefully investors will stay tuned for an analysis of the early-stage startup world by someone who knows what they're talking about ;-)
