Roast our blog landing
Hi all,
We have been experimenting with various layouts of our blog site.
Without cover images.
More compact.
More spacious.
We settled on cover images and moderate padding.
It does not look super innovative but is also not quite traditional.
Thoughts?
It's all subjective. I checked the site and those images scream at me. So I got too distracted to check the titles of the posts. So I spent 5 seconds and all I can see are some irrelevant images and have no idea what are posts about.
I think post titles are the most important content that you have. So I would personally do it very differently. But again it's all subjective and we're all different.

As for font, it matches the whole site so I am reluctant to experiment here, but I need to change line height, which I think will help.
Your subtitles is paraphrasing titles get rid of them. Your images captivate interest, and title may state idea clear. So I think little previews doesn’t add up any meaning and just clutter interface
Interesting. My motivation was to give a bit more context to the article via abstract, giving myself a bit of room for creativity/humour/twist in the title.
Titles and images are good enough. Don’t bring more confusion
I dont think much can go wrong with a blog layout like that. I think the tags could be bigger and a different colour combination. The description text could be a touch bigger.
You have very large thumbnails and plenty of room for a bigger font. Other than that, all good.
Put a sign-up form at the top under your headline. I'm guilty of not doing this currently as well, but it's on my shortlist of to-dos.
That's a requirement. I am working on a newsletter feature for docswrite and will have this option to have the subscription form on top of homepage
My 2 cents:
As the site grows you might want to look at having 'quick' category links. e.g. just below the heading have a few popular tag links, such as "Technology", "Linux", "Marketing" .
I do agree with others that the thumbnails have too much noise and drag the eye away from the title. In my opinion they shouldn't have text, maybe play around with having the titles at the bottom of the image and then have a black gradient underlay between, this way the eye naturally sees the title before the image.
You would still want to have simpler thumbnails though.
Last thing, I played around with the CSS and found that 3 cards, with less margin, was more pleasing.
Other than that I enjoyed the simplistic design.
As in make cards tighter? Not sure I follow. Do you mind to elaborate further?

I'd love a series on how to collect analytics from a practical standpoint. What do I need to add to the privacy policy? What do I need to look for in a potential vendor? What are my options if I have user consent? What are my options without consent? etc.
Great ideas! We cover these in our documentation to some extent, but having this more narratively would help.
