Roast our first digital product. Be Brutal πŸ”₯

https://launchpedia.co/product-hunt-kit

Hey guys,

We finished building our first digital product in LaunchPedia and now we are looking to validate it. Give your honest feedback on the product and the landing page. We don’t want to waste our time on a bad product, so your feedback helps us a lot. Be brutal!!

    Hi @Just_Karthik πŸ‘‹πŸ»

First of all, the H1 animation should be abolished. On mobile, the entire page content bounces. It's annoying as hell.

Secondly, these days I don't consider products that don't have a money back guarantee or a trial period.

And finally, include testimonials and social proof.

Overall, I think the product is worth considering.

However, I would personally focus on the content value rather than the time savings. I can imagine your target audience being unsure about their Product Hunt launch rather than getting everything done ASAP.

But that's something you must find out πŸ‘πŸ»

      Thanks for the inputs man.

Regarding the trial period, we added a free preview of our dashboard just now. We are collecting testimonials, we will add them to the site soon.

And considering the value angle what if we say "Create a winning Product Hunt tagline in minutes"?

        Like this. Great CTA πŸ‘πŸ»

Perhaps you could address both aspects in respective sections. Perhaps in a semantic way, e.g.:

Why successful makers choose the Product Hunt Launch Kit…
        β”œβ”€β”€ Winning Taglines …
        └── ...

Save time, focus on what matters ...
        └── ...

Another thought would be that you can easily rearrange these sections to test intent with simple ad validation on custom funnel pages πŸ€”

    Hey Karthik,

Great to see you're building your first digital product! I've split my feedback into categories and ranked them based on priority. These are all my initial reactions and assumptions, I encourage you to correct my understanding while considering that other people may draw similar (potentially false) conclusions from your landing page.

    1. Jobs-to-be-done and value proposition

    • My initial understanding before reading the copy in more detail was that ProductHuntKit is a collection of templates that will speed up the process of launching
    • When I realised that it was simply a collection of "Inspirations" it felt misleading
    • I'm not convinced that the difficult part – the job to be done – of launching on ProductHunt is finding examples of thumbnails or videos. I'd say its actually creating them
    • I feel like I'd get more value from a free blog post and hiring a freelance graphic designer
    • An example of a business in the same space that could have a stronger value proposition might be a productised agency that actually handles the end to end launch of my product. Handling the marketing and growth side of projects for technical founders who don't have strengths in those areas. I'd happily pay much more than $39 for that level of service, especially if there was sufficient social proof and a history of performance.

    2. Resilience and differentiation

    • Your site mentions that the inspirations are based off the top 3 launches on ProductHunt in 2023 which makes me feel like I could get all of this content by just looking at the ProductHunt website
    • It looks like the app is powered by a google sheet containing a list of "inspirations". Does this mean that over time the content becomes more out of date?
    • Continuing on the same example business; differentiation could look like an impressive archive of testimonials and public analytics showcasing past launch successes.
    • Resilience could look like a service which handles launching on multiple platforms and channels so that if ProductHunt loses relevance or if they remove a feature that one of your services targets you could still deploy to a collection of other product aggregators. This would also increase the value of the service because as a customer I'd get a one stop shop that could handle launch across all platforms.

    3. Execution

    • Initial impressions were positive. I like the aesthetic and I was curious to explore the offering
    • One of the buttons doesn't work
    • Copy needs work. The same points were repeated more than a dozen times, capitalisation was inconsistent
    • The frontend stack is incredibly bloated for a single page site. I'm going to assume you're a non-technical creator so I won't dig into it too much, this is also the lowest priority concern I have compared to value prop

I recorded a video of my first impressions and discussing the points above

Happy to answer any questions. Thanks for sharing with the community and keep doing what you're doing!

Your landing page is very sleek but seems to be lacking content. I am all for minimalism but it's hard to find a lot of info if I am truly interested in purchasing. I just launched a project today on PH called poket dev, can't link my website since i've just been a lurker here for a long time, but I think I might have the opposite problem? I was going for minimalist sleek but I think I have an overwhelming amount of info on the landing page which could be good for people very interested but scare those on the fence away.

      Yeah, makes sense.

Will try to add info and also a preview of what you can get. Thanks for your inputs man.

I can't roast your product because I don't even understand what it does πŸ™ƒ

    1. 1

If you are launching on product hunt, you will need to create a listing page which will have thumbnails, taglines, descriptions, images, videos etc... And creating these will take a lot of time, so with our product, you can find inspiration listing faster and create within minutes.

      1. 2

Seems extremely situational, I think it is very unlikely to generate recurring and sustainable income from this. But I could be wrong as I clearly don't understand the domain of the problem as well as you & your team

        1. 1

Yeah, makes sense. Will look into other opportunities too. Thanks for your feedback man.

I really like the interface at the top but I agree with the users on this thread. I could not figure out very clearly and within seconds what the service is.

    Hey Karthik,

Not bad for a first digital product.

I agree with a lot that has been said:
β€’ Copy needs some work - it's quite repetitive. It also doesn't sound very native. For example: use ideas instead of inspirations.
β€’ Saving time isn't the best selling point. You only get one PH launch. So if they do it quickly and it doesn't go well, they'll think they've rushed it and they'll blame your product. I'd focus on crafting that winning product launch page.
β€’ Social proof (but you probably don't have any yet). So highlight some of the things they'll find. (eg discover the winning strategy X used to get the most upvotes in 2023).
    β€’ Live preview is great!
β€’ The title focuses on what you get: a "kickass video" etc. But indies don't want a kickass video. They want to be the most popular product of the day. So an alternative could be: Everything you need to nail your product hunt launch.
β€’ CTA: not bad but not great. I think this type of button copy is better for free things. Can't come up with a better alternative right now. The only thing that comes to mind is "Give it to me, baby" πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ it's worth giving it a try maybe πŸ˜‚
