Rocumentaries: 32k visits and 2x free subs one month after reboot

Sup people? πŸ‘‹

I recently resurrected and rebooted a product I originally launched in 2016.

Rocumentaries is a catalogue of 200+ curated links to the best documentaries online:

Discover classics and hidden gems from your favourite channels (YouTube, Netflix, Prime, BBC, 4OD & more) πŸ’Ž

Quick backstory

I launched on Product Hunt in late 2016, and (very unexpectedly) hit 1,000+ upvotes and #1 Product of the Day. Ryan Hoover (founder of PH), was the top comment and they gave it a push, causing a considerable spike in traffic.

The mailing list grew to 1.6k but I stopped working on it for a number reasons back in 2018.

Reboot

I recently rebooted and relaunched the site (Notion + Super rebuild). I sent out a newsletter for the first time in 5 years and saw a ~40% open rate and a spike in traffic of 9.5k users. This felt quite healthy given the 5 year radio silence.

It appeared in Kevin Kelley's (co-founder of WIRED) Recomendo substack and Cool Tools blog driving a lot of traffic to the site. Since rebooting the mailing list has doubled subs (total 3250+) and hit 32k visitors over the last month!

I'm hoping to grow the mailing list and potentially find a way to monetise (promoted docs/partnerships/paid sub/paid sub tiers).

The new MVP is was the simplest articulation I could create in the shortest possible time. Planning to add IMDb reviews.

Would love to hear people's thoughts!
