I read The Mom Test the other day - and I think it's a breath of fresh air.
My favorite part is the rules of thumb (in reference to incorrect customer conversations about product solutions). Here's some of them:
Rule of thumb: Some problems don't actually matter.
Rule of thumb: People will lie to you if they think it's what you want to hear.
Rule of thumb: If they haven't looked for ways of soling it already, they're not going to look for (or buy) yours.
Rule of thumb: People stop lying when you ask them for money.
Rule of thumb: Opinions are worthless.
I definitely recommend the book if you've never had a successful product/business. It will point you in the right direction.
So many people on IH build products in a vacuum, and build products to solve "problems" that don't matter.
Don't let yourself be one of them. Build something that's valuable, essential, and that provides incredible value for the customer.
Then and only then will you be successful.
