Run Your Finances Like A Business

You know how businesses are careful with their money, but when it comes to individuals that's not always the case?

That's why I built You, LLC. The idea is this: to help people reframe their view on money and give them the financial clarity that C-suite executives and business owners have and make it intuitive enough for anyone to use.

You, LLC provides a simple, private place to enter your financial situation (income, expenses, assets, and liabilities) and lays out your finances the same way a business owner would make decisions about the future of their company. But in this case, it's your decisions and your future. The inputs feed into a debt planner where you can craft a debt payoff plan or determine housing and auto affordability.

The app intentionally does not link to your bank accounts or loans because I want you to go into your bank statements and actually look at the interest rates you're paying—and I also want you to notice how many times you're going to, say, Chipotle each week. There's a handy calculator built right in, available on each screen in the upper right-hand corner, and also integrated into text inputs.

There’s also a cool PDF Financial Statements section under the Account Settings tab, where you can view your personal income statement, balance sheet, and debt payoff plan in a more formal format—similar to how companies like Apple or Nvidia report their earnings and financial position.

One of my hopes with this app is that it will serve as a great introduction to accounting and finance for students. Since public schools in the United States don’t do a great job of teaching kids how to handle their finances, I’d love for this to be an option for teachers—especially since it's free and private.

Two final important notes—

1. Adding auto loans and mortgages

Auto loans and mortgages are added in the Income Statement section under Housing and Auto.

Press the Add button in each section and enter the loan details (outstanding balance, remaining months, and interest rate), and the app will calculate your monthly payment.

Now, the reason I mention this is because mortgage and auto loan minimums are included in the Expense section—not in the Debt section. Why? Because they’re generally fixed and essential expenses. We all need somewhere to live, and we also need a way to get places. So, only the minimum required payment on those loans is included in the respective Housing and Auto expense sections. Any extra payments you make above your mortgage or auto loan minimums go into the Debt Payments section on the income statement.

Other types of loans—such as student loans or credit cards—are entered on the Balance Sheet and will populate the Debt Payments section with both the minimum payment and any additional amounts you pay above the minimum. You’ll see what I mean when you start using it, but it can be a little confusing at first.

🚨 Just remember: Mortgage and auto loan minimums go in the Expense section, while any extra payments go in the Debt Payments section on the Income Statement. All other debts are fully listed in the Debt Payments section.

2. The app is completely private!

Well, you do sign up with your email, but if you use Apple’s “Hide My Email” feature, they’ll route it through their private relay, making it completely private—which is sweet. AI models are consuming everything these days, so I wanted to provide this feature because, well, finances are a sensitive and private thing.

Because of this, there’s no cloud storage or backup. If you delete the app, your data is gone. It also means data won't sync across multiple devices (i.e., iPad and iPhone). Just use it on one device, and you’ll be good.

If people like the app or want cloud backup, we can cross that bridge when we get there.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, You, LLC is all about helping you take control of your finances—just like a business would. Whether you're tracking your expenses, planning your debt payoff, or simply getting a better understanding of your financial health, this app gives you the tools to make informed decisions about your future.

And remember—every dollar counts. So let's save some dough! 👨‍🍳💰
