SaaS Design Tips #006: Tease your killer features, act as a new user and 3 more tips

Hello fellow IndieHackers — It's Jim from Love at first try.

Here are my 5 design tips for this week to help you grow your SaaS.

Estimated read time: 2 minutes & 10 seconds

Tease your killer features with animated product shots and make your users scroll

"people don't scroll" - FALSE
People DO SCROLL, as long as they're MOTIVATED to do so.

That said, your SaaS website should hook visitors immediately from its hero section.

Wondering how you can do it?
One way to do this is to tease your killer features with animated product shots like Ready calendar.

Make your SaaS website stand out by being unconventional

Most SaaS websites look the same:
title → subtitle → button → image

Amie calendar took a different approach.

They start with a gorgeous animation and then present their product with unique layouts and interactions.

Add friction to your sign-up flow to increase the quality of your new users

You DON'T want everybody to sign up for your SaaS.

Instead, you want people that are serious and likely to become your customers.

Each new sign up means more time invested by your team. Therefore the quality of your sign ups matters a lot.

A way to achieve this is to add friction to your sign-up flow.
At ZenMaid we ask for billing details to activate trials and works pretty well!

Make your SaaS social proof BELIEVABLE

"Make your social proof as believable as possible"

Avoid showing testimonials cards with a custom fancy design.

People have no way to tell if they are fake or not.

Here are some more believable ways to do it 👇

Do this 5min exercise to improve your SaaS onboarding

A ~ 5min exercise to improve your SaaS onboarding:

  • Pick the job to be done that most of your users are using your SaaS for (ex. schedule an appointment)
  • Open your SaaS website and sign up as a new user
  • Try to get this job done, and take notes of the issues you find along the way

If you try it out, please do drop a comment, I am curious to hear how it went!
