Salesforce in talks to acquire Slack

  1. 7

I'm not that bullish on Slack as a standalone company. They have a lot of momentum, and I like their style. But it's pretty shocking how quickly Microsoft Teams was able to catch up in terms of distribution. And I wouldn't be surprised if a company like Zoom could clone Slack faster than Slack could clone Zoom. Reliable video seems harder to build than chat.

I could see a behemoth like Salesforce putting some wind in Slack's sails, if they don't mess it up.

Hey Courtland, agree that it's easier to build a Slack clone than a Zoom clone.

I did read a great piece on why being bullish on Slack is the right move. It says, in part:

"The bear narrative around Slack focuses mainly on Microsoft Teams. The market views Teams, backed by superior distribution, a limitless balance sheet, and the fact that it’s bundled in free with Office365, as an existential threat to Slack’s growth."

The article then unpacks that bear narrative. Worth a read! https://notboring.substack.com/p/slack-the-bulls-are-typing

I had just transferred cash to my trade account a couple days before to buy their stock. The funds landed yesterday... just after the stock shot up 38% 😂

But it's just IRC with a pretty interface!

Yes, it has been reported that Salesforce is in talks to acquire Slack, a popular workplace communication platform. The potential acquisition could be a significant move for Salesforce, as it would enable the company to expand its offerings beyond its core customer relationship management (CRM) software and into the realm of workplace collaboration.

If the acquisition goes through, it could create a powerful combination of Salesforce's CRM software and Slack's communication platform, allowing customers to streamline their workflows and collaborate more effectively. It could also potentially create new revenue streams for Salesforce and position the company as a more well-rounded player in the enterprise software market.

However, it's worth noting that the acquisition has not been finalized and there are still many details to be worked out. If the deal does go through, it could take some time for the two companies to fully integrate their technologies and operations. Nonetheless, the potential acquisition of Slack by Salesforce is an interesting development to watch in the enterprise software space.

It would be a great deal for marketers. I would love to see the combination of both. However, I already worked for a salesforce consultancy company you can see here https://axisconsulting.io/

If this goes through, anyone reckon Salesforce will kill the free plan?

Hmmm. This just sparked an idea

That would make me feel sad.
