Scheduling One Tweet/Day for a Month

I've been learning a lot about audiences and content creation from David Perell. He talks about "audience-first products." I have grown my following on Twitter, but I think a lot of that was luck. I'd like to focus my content more on things in my personal monopoly.

I'm testing out a new mega-batching strategy by scheduling one tweet a day for the month of July. My hope is that this will:

  • allow me to focus less on Twitter and more on writing
  • grow my audience around the content I want to sell

Let's see how this goes ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

Scheduling tweets is very valuable for batching and automation.

However, limiting it to one tweet/day seems pretty arbitrary and limiting.

Since you already have 27k followers, it feels like you're going to get way more ROI if you just use an automated batch-scheduler, feed in 100-200 tweets in one sitting, and then letting the tweets go out on their own in the background.

And then engaging manually once a day with anyone who engages with your content.

For Zlappo, we have users who do just that. They log in once a month and schedule their tweets for the next month ahead (either using our interface or uploading a CSV), and then they don't log in again until the next month.

It's hardly distracting and systematizes their social media growth.

As for other indie hackers who are just starting their Twitter journey:

Joe already has 27k followers, so obviously he's going to get a lot more benefit out of scheduling tweets.

For most of the rest of us, depending on your existing follower base/audience, you'd see a lot more ROI from commenting instead of scheduling tweets.

In 2020, the "state-of-the-art" way to grow your Twitter is to be as visible as possible with as little effort as possible, and that means adding relevant influencers in your niche to a List, stalking them, and consistently commenting on their content, adding value and essentially being an influencer yourself too, so as to leverage their large followings to build yours, see:

Scheduling tweets when you don't have much of an audience yet will -- I guarantee -- feel like talking to a wall very quickly.

Wow! Yeah, using an automated batch scheduler sounds really nice. Thanks for breaking it all down and providing some resources. Definitely going to check these out!

Some good seo and backlinks there wrapping a very insightful post. Nice one.

      1. 1

        Links here are nofollow ๐Ÿ™‚

        1. 1

Yes, they are, but traffic helps nonetheless. :)

        2. 1

I wasn't being sarcastic :) I ended up clicking on the links and learning about his product more.

I didn't know that about them being nofollow here to prevent seo. Thought the recent uptick in links being posted were for that purpose as well as eyeballs.

    3. 2

That was very insightful. Thank you!

I'd be interested to hear how this went - do you have any results, followers growth, engagement?

I run a social media scheduling tool called Pallyy and this would be really interesting to know!

    1. 1

It was fine! I mean nothing substantial to share really ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Some tweets had good engagement, some not. Average follower growth. Wish I had better things to say but that's really it

  3. 1

    Which scheduling app is this?

    1. 2

I posted below but itโ€™s actually just a calendar view of a database in Notion!

  4. 1

Is there any other strategy that you've tried earlier to grow your Twitter account ?

    1. 2

Like I said, itโ€™s been a lot of luck.

Things in my control that Iโ€™ve done:

      • writing content for others like freeCodeCamp
      • making YouTube videos
      • replying to high profile accounts
      • asking questions that drive conversations

      Hope that helps!

You can try https://smhack.io for scheduling the tweets . There is no free plan but you can use it for 3 months for free . If you could give the feedback during the time then it would be great . @jsjoeio

    1. 1

The trial says it's for 7 days. How do I get the 3 months? Would be happy to give feedback for a longer trial period!

      1. 1

I will update your trial Period :)

    2. 1

Sure, I'd be happy to try! I signed up(https://jsjoeio.smhack.io).

  6. 1

    What calendar app is that?

    1. 3

It's a calendar view of a database in Notion!

  7. 1

Do you use an automated tool to schedule your tweeting or just manually tweet things out?

    1. 1

Manually unfortunately. Buffer is a nice too for automating the schedule a bit, but the free plan limits to 10 posts I think.

      1. 1

why not using twitter scheduling, available from the web app?

        1. 1

It doesn't always work :( I canโ€™t put my finger on the issue, but it fails intermittently. Once itโ€™s fully working, I plan to though

  8. 1

I keep meaning to do something like this, but never get around to it.

Let us know how you get on!

Or maybe we can start a challenge, get people to commit to it for July and everyone can report back. ๐Ÿค“

    1. 1

Will do! I'll post an update after July!

Oo that's a great idea! If anyone else wants to join me, would love to do it together ๐Ÿ˜„

  9. 1

That's great. Would love to know how this goes for your subscriber base.
Do you use twitter scheduled tweets or some other tool for scheduling?

    1. 1

Definitely! Iโ€™ll post some stats after.

I was, sometimes it doesnโ€™t work so in that case I use TweetDeck.
