Scored a meeting with an angel investor!

After over a week of contacting angel investors and VC’s, one SaaS-focused angel investor has agreed to meet with me and listen to my pitch later this month or early next month.

In case anyone is wondering how, here’s how I did it:

  1. I used LinkedIn
  2. I used focus searches for investors at my desired industry
  3. I sent some cold messages directly on LinkedIn
  4. After two days if they hadn’t seen it or replied I pinged them on email

The cold message looked similar to this:

Hi (name),

My name is (my name), I’m glad we connected, would you have a few minutes to spare? I heard about you (how? - research what they’re known for - helps make a personal connection).

I’m currently working on a (industry type) SaaS, targeted at (market), currently I’m in early development stages, however I’m confident my product will shape the way we (ideaogy behind product), with this in mind, would you be available to share some advice? I’d love to pitch to you and gather some feedback and hopefully (type of item you want? investment / mentoring / etc).

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I truly appreciate it!

Phone number: (phone)
Email: (email)

After I had sent this message, four ignored me - but two replied, one indicated they weren’t ready to do more investing but would happily listen to me, the other indicated he’s interested in investing based on the further information I provided (“what’s the product? describe its goals and objectives? why?”), and is scheduling a time to hear my pitch and hopefully give advice and investment.

I encourage everyone to reach out to angel investors, if not for nothing more than experienced advice in the target industry!

1/4 is 25% conversion and that is great =)

It's awesome to see you get outside of your comfort zone and go pitch some angels.

Have you been able to find any blogs, interviews, etc from this angel? If so, my advice is to read up on as much as you can. It'll really help you craft your pitch (and conversation) and leave the person feeling emotionally attached to your product.

I did this with a VC and turned a 30 minute scheduled meeting into a 1.5 hour deep conversation where he gave me lots of incredible feedback AND introduced me to other founders in his network.

    Good luck!

Why are you looking for an Angel investor though?
