SEC Form D filings: the sales-lead signal most CRMs never see

This week Antora Energy filed an SEC Form D for $457.6M. That filing was public on EDGAR the moment it was submitted — free, searchable, no funding-news middleman required.

Most sales teams never look at it. They wait for a TechCrunch or Crunchbase roundup days or weeks later, by which point half the competing vendors have already reached out.

A Form D is required any time a private company raises through a Regulation D exempt offering (the standard structure for VC/angel rounds), typically filed within 15 days of first sale. It discloses who raised, how much, and who the executives/promoters are.

I've been building Funding Signals — it watches EDGAR continuously, parses new Form D filings, and scores each 0-100 as a sales lead (raise size, recency, industry, first-time-filer status), with enriched contact info where publicly available.

Curious how other indie hackers selling B2B are sourcing fresh leads — is anyone else watching public filings, or is everyone relying on funding-news aggregators?

The interesting signal here is that the filing itself is available before the usual funding coverage catches up. Curious whether the timing advantage is proving as valuable in practice as the underlying data.
