As part of writing for my psychology newsletter, I learned about this phenomenon called Hedonic Adaptation.
Do you have those moments when the excitement of that first product that you spent enormous time in wears off?
Or when the promotion in your job reminds you of incoming extra load of work?
Hedonic Adaptation is the idea is that no matter how good something makes us feel, most of the time we drift back to where we started. ð€·ð»ââïž
Here's an interesting study about it:-
In one study, 68 participants were asked to eat some popcorn. ð¿
While half were told to eat the normal way, one kernel at a time, the rest used chopsticks. ð¥¢
Those who ate with chopsticks enjoyed the popcorn a lot more than the others, even though both groups ate slowly!
How does this help you?
If the first time you were building your product, all by yourself, hiding it from everyone, maybe this time try to #buildinpublic?
Or time box your development as well as marketing strategies?
Doing the next iteration differently will help you in keeping that shipping excitement intact. Thoughts?
That's all.
Cheers!
