Seeking feedback on our home page (primary landing page)
by

https://peer.haus
I felt a bit blocked while reading this "subheader" paragraph:
Even if it makes sense, the lack of colons and the "-" in the first sentence prevented me from correctly splitting the sentences. Also the fact that the second sentence starts with the domain "peer.haus", hence starting with a non capital "p", didn't help.
A part from that I like the overall structure, I will be using something similar on my own side project.
In the future a video (or animated gif ) could replace the first image and may help explaining the idea faster ?
That being said, nice work! 👏🏽
Thanks for the feedback! You came in with this at the perfect time because I literally just pushed those changes up to prod an hour or so before you checked it out.
Your feedback about the text helps a lot. I'm working with a colleague of mine on all of the copy so I am going to add this to the notes of observations for us.
You are the 3rd person to mention a GIF/video of the tool in action. I have to figure something out there because it's an apparent need.
Thanks again for your feedback! What is your side project?
Yep, way more readable now IMHO 👏🏽.
This is my side project initial presentation: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/mvp-feedback-needed-saas-to-optimize-e-commerce-product-pages-d16bb9621b
You mentioned:
Any advice on how to do that?
Your timing is impeccable. I just added my review on the thread.
As for working with the colleague of mine, when I meet someone that truly impresses me I do my best to keep them close and try to work with them whenever I can. In this case, she is a content marketer that I worked with years ago and I knew I wanted to keep her in my metaphorical rolodex. Once I started trying to execute content marketing strategies myself, I immediately reached out (cold) and asked if she was interested in freelancing on some projects.
My experience is that people enjoy the adventure of working on projects, even in a freelance capacity, and keeping these experts close to me has really paid off (both socially as friends and professionally as colleagues).
My raw notes after reviewing the site:
I had to read the header 3 times to comprehend it. Had to scroll through the page to fully understand what it was. You are into something here. Very good idea BTW. Try https://headlime.com It will give you a lot of great ideas for the copy.
Not sure who the audience is though? Is it the employees or the HR team.
"Try it for free" should allow me to try it without a sign-up form. If this is not possible, at least have a video with the big picture of the product.
Once I logged in, I noticed it had too many coach marks and these were very too wordy. "UX Is Like A Joke. If You Have To Explain It, It Isn’t That Good".
Two alternatives to explore:
Even after going through the coach marks, it is still not clear what is the first step that I should follow to get started. You need to have a first run experience (FRE) UX that makes the first step super obvious.
Thanks for the feedback! This is really good stuff, a lot of which I was worried about but not enough of an expert to put my finger on it.
The copy is a mess for sure (sobbuh added some notes on this as well) and I always struggle with copy. My target audience is team leads/managers with teams of any size (up to and including a large, hierarchical organization). In my mind, that's the beauty of the way I've built it because it can serve both in the way they would expect (managers have access to their direct reports' data, peers do not have lateral access to data, anyone can gather feedback from anyone in their organization, etc.).
You nailed a fear of mine with the UX. Nailed it. The "tutorial" is 100% me trying my best to give a crash course but I don't mean for it to be permanent. I want to streamline the UX in a way that you're referring to but I just haven't figured out how to execute on that yet.
I have never heard of FRE but that is a really interesting point. I need to research this and figure out a way to implement it here.
Here's a quick refactor I did of your above the fold section:
https://imgur.com/a/YuvEArs
Some notes on what I changed & why:
Readability
The shadow on the text makes it hard to read. The heavier font already emphasizes it enough, a small shadow would be okay (still kinda unnecessary).
I would also add some max-width to the navbar, it stretches out the page too much and makes it hard to focus. It looks a lot more polished when things aren't hanging out way at the edge of the page.
Vertical Spacing
Your text is really crunched up. Adding some spacing to let it breathe will make the page a lot more readable and accessible.
Color
The color scheme doesn't work so well for me. The green looks faded. The menu buttons disappear into the green.
I would plug your main color (the yellow?) into adobe's color tool to find a good starting point.
https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel
Branding
The logo is a little small for me. It feels inconsequential and implicitly makes me think less of the product. (again, being at the far end of the page crunched up against the margins adds to this impression).
Headline
I like "cultivate professional growth". That works for me. "Impact your culture" is unnecessary at that point -- though you could do something like "elevate your culture"?
I went with to "elevate your team", but that's not any better than cultivate professional growth, really. It's a little vague for me.
For the sub-headline, I would get the user agreeing with you first, and then move on to how you provide benefit for them.
I went with something like:
"Your team is your most valuable asset." -- this selects for people who want to improve their team, and makes them feel like the next part of what I say is going to be applicable to them.
"Peer.haus uses anonymous peer feedback to help your team excel and fulfill their potential"
This describes what you do, and the overall benefit of the platform. Again, it's a little vague -- I would prefer to have some more concrete examples of what the benefit is, and that's something I would figure out by talking to your current users and seeing the exact words they use to describe the benefit.
---
If I was doing a full re-do here, I would put a gif above the fold of the whole review process and how the anonymous reviews are done. Use a real example of a review that would benefit the person being reviewed.
For the rest of the landing page, this type of idea really needs a few things to be clear:
social proof? This is the biggest one. Who is using your software and what do they like about it?
why is this what my team needs? why is anonymous feedback the solution for my team? what does it do for my team, and why should i take the time to set it up? Why should I do it right now?
---
This is amazing, I really appreciate the feedback! I'm going to spend a lot of time experimenting with this and taking this in.
Your purple is beautiful but I am a sucker for purple. I'll reply here with my final changes and that way you can see the result of your help.
Again, really appreciate you taking the time to do this.
EDIT: I still want to do a video explaining the app with short walk throughs of the features but I haven't fully planned it out yet. I plan on that taking the place of the "Measure Growth Over Time" graphic.
Here is the update I promised: https://peer.haus
I ended up rethinking the color palette around the gold/champagne as an accent color. One of the complementary (I think?) colors was this beautiful purple that just captivated me and I couldn't say no so I chose that as the "primary" brand color for the site.
As for the rest, I am highly interested in hearing what you think of my interpretation of your feedback! I appreciate you spending the time that you already allocated to it, you've helped me immensely.
Hey,
Looks great. I think visually it's good enough to sell the product.
I would add a section that explains how the app works -- how do I submit feedback anonymously? What do you integrate with? What do I need to do set this up?
The landing page is also missing some user testimonials & social proof.
---
How is your user feedback on the product itself so far?
Thanks for taking another look!
I agree with the need for a section explaining the product in more detail. I am working on an explainer video right now that will briefly describe the problem and then jump right into video of peer.haus being the solution. I've done GIFs with little blurbs elaborating on the recording but still had a lot of friction there. Hoping the explainer video is more effective once it's done!
I definitely need user testimonials and will be getting that ASAP but I need people in the product first. Getting people to sign up and check it out has been relatively easy but getting those same people to really use it has been harder.
The feedback I've been getting so far is that everyone sees its potential and thinks that we're onto something here. I'm trying to steer that momentum in the right direction and get it in the hands of teams to see what we truly have here.
