Seeking for advise and feedback

Hi all, my friend (who is not on IH) and I created ybits.io. It's a large file sharing alternative. I'd like to hear your input & feedback on the product. what outstanding about this is that we do malware protection which prevent misuse and abuse unlike what happened with FireFox Send.

My research shows that new startups getting funded only by offering large file sharing.

I'd appreciate your feedback on the design, etc.

EDIT: Fixed the website link

I would gladly give my input, but the website seems to be down. Is there any problems on your end?

Cool, I was able to test it now. I'll give you my impressions.

Design: The biggest problem for me is the hierarchy. When I look at the page my eyes follow this path:

        1. Footer: The footer has a vibrant color and high contrast with the background. Combining with its size it becomes the first thing that catches my attention.
        2. The logo: Vibrant color plus animation.
        3. The upload widget

The upload widget should be way higher on the hierarchy since it's the core of the product. The footer and the logo should secondary.

        Interface:

        • When a file is selected it should change the "Drag'n'Drop box" to a new state showing that a file is selected.
        • The inputs give a lot of information about the product, for example it was not obvious for me how the product worked when I opened the site. But when I saw the duration input it gave me an idea of what it was. So why not let them visible by default on put the copy outside of the upload widget? On an H1 maybe with more value proposition creating a desire for the product.

Understanding the product: As I said, it was not obvious for me at first, probably because I didn't have heard of Firefox Send before. This could be done with a little bit more of a copy and value proposition.

While writing this I just realized that there's a "how it works" page. Maybe put all of its content on the main page below the widget? Most of the users won't open the menu and click on it and It's not a good UX on desktop devices, menus like that are for mobile.

The product itself: Really cool, I liked it. Only one suggestion: maybe have a "success" page saying that the file was sent and displaying the generated link? I can see myself wanting to share the file in other places like slack for example.

Overall congrats man, launching a product is a good achievement, something to be proud of. Hopefully, I didn't sound too negative since I liked the product, just my thoughts, hope It's productive for you.

        Have a nice day!

Thank you for your time on reviewing the product. These are constructive feedback and certainly valuable as we aim to scale the product.

          • About the success page and the download link: this is a feature we have been brainstorming that will possibly be as part of Premium offering, which among many other features such as the ability to have Slack, Team, and discord integration.

          • About the drop zone state: I agree with you on that and I will definitely review that as well as the layout position to be a bit higher.

          • For the duration input field: I personally want to keep it as clean, simple as possible. Perhaps considering the other point you mentioned about displaying how it works on a single page, add an indicator "scroll down to learn how it works" or something similar... or just a tiny section underneath that explain how it works to highlight the duration portion. Well, looks like the later may be the best option to keep everything minimalistic.
