Hi everyone,
Our idea, SnaggedIt, is at its very birth stage of development. In fact, it's only just been conceived.
We've got an idea and are looking to validate it to see if it has legs and is worth pursuing (let's hope so!). I've put together a product page on Indie Hackers if you'd like to follow along with our progress and I've put up a few posts to give some info around what we're doing - https://www.indiehackers.com/product/snagit
The premise of our idea is: Defects with a new build house are inevitable but that shouldn't stop anyone from enjoying their home. SnaggedIt makes recording and reporting defects a breeze so House Developers can get right onto fixing the problems and Homeowners can get on with enjoying their new home.
We've also put together a landing page to help illustrate and inform our idea a little more concisely - www.snaggedit.co.uk
We've identified a need - There is a UK housing crisis and new build houses will be built at a substantially rapid rate over the next 10-20 years. There is also a skills shortage within the construction industry which has led to house builders cutting corners and dropping quality whilst still retaining enormous profits. All of this is at the detriment to the homeowner and their quality of life.
We're validating our idea through FB Groups and online forums but it would also be great to hear thoughts, ideas, comments, and general input from this awesome community.
What we want to know - Is our idea any good?
Many thanks in advance,
Rob McCarthy
I think it would help if you describe what are the current solutions and also the business model, who's paying for it, how do you market it etc
Hi Oron,
Thank you for your comment.
Current solutions - There are snagging (or punch list) apps available but these appear to be targeted at the B2B market (e.g. construction companies quality assuring their own work) rather than being for the end consumer which in this case is the homeowner. Furthermore, because these apps are aimed at businesses, they are clunky to use and do not have the finesse that you'd expect from a consumer-focused app. This does provide comfort in that there are competitors but also that we'd be more targeted (not so much a niche but more a specific audience).
Business model - It's still very early stages for us at the moment. Whilst I fully appreciate a business model would be useful to have, we're not quite there yet with our idea. We're not sure how we could make money from the app yet (there's a number of ways) but we're trying to validate the idea of the app first to see if it would be useful before throwing in the barrier of payment.
We are considering going MVP with this. There's a raft of features that we could deliver but as a phase 1 we're thinking of creating an app that simply enables homeowners to record and report a snagging list. Initial thoughts are that this would be a free app where we would self-fund but keep costs minimal. If we are then seeing traction with the app then we'd look to implement monetisation. How? We're not quite sure yet but this is certainly an area we'd love to discuss and get advice on.
Thanks again for your comment Oron.
